Ok, so last night I am about to make a routine trip to wal-mart and I hop in the cat put in the key and turn the............... DON'T turn the ignition because the key won't turn. The steering wheel is locked as well, but that should not be an issue. Has anyone ever had this problem? If so, is there a cheap fix, because I had plans for fridays paycheck -___-.

Try moving the steering wheel back & forth while turning the key. Also try moving the shifter. The lock mechanisims in those can sometimes bind the ignition cylinder up
I will try that, thank you sir.
looks like I am going to have to buy a new ignition switch. Anything to watch out for when I am taking apart the steering colum? Any suggestions on a good one to get for a cougar?
Ignition switch or ignition cylinder? The switch normally doesn't bind up the whole shebang.
No, it usually burns it
ignition switch is easy if you can get the key to work, you just pop out the old one, there is a little tabyou can push in and it will pop out, in the run position only.if you cant, just buy a new steering wheel shaft thingy.
