Title: Change in seat plans (was Upholstery search....)
Post by: Chuck W on January 09, 2006, 04:26:34 PM
Ok..most of you guys know I'm a weird  when it comes to my cars, and so as not to disappoint here goes.

I'm going to be getting a set of Recaros recovered here for the '83 TBird and I'm REALLY wanting to try and get my hands on some fabric, or at least something close.  I haven't been in to the upholstery shop yet as they are on the opposite side of town and it's hard to get there.

I really like these seats

but I'd rather have that pattern in more of a grey-scale, which I think I have seen.  I have been scouring the net and not finding much.  Kinda of an "era correct" thing.

Anyone have any resources and might know where I might be able to find some, or whether a similar design (even without the "RECARO" on it) is readiily available?

Man those are freaking sweet. Do you have those or is that just the pattern your going after. What model recaros are those? Years ago I saw an '86 turbo coupe with SVO seats in grey and they fit the interior perfectly.

I already have a couple sets that need reupholstering, but that insert pattern is kind of what I'm looking for, but not quite that technicolor.  If I had a burgundy car, or mine was more than silver and charcoal I might look for something like those.  Those particular ones would just look out of place in my car.

If you couldn't find the gradient you're looking for you could always get a light material and dye it in progressively dark stages. If you wanted to, you could even silkscreen the "Recaro" text, or just about any other text, onto 'em...

Those aren't my seats...I'm just looking for upholstery in a similar pattern for the ones I have.

Those are Recaros, not Flo-Fits.  They're old SE seats.

Well, a slight change in seat plans.

I said to myself if I could find a decent set of seats for what I was going to have the Pace Car Recaros recovered for, I'd go ahead and get them.

Well, I wound up winning a pair of (http://i24.ebayimg.com/01/i/05/f7/17/d2_1.JPG)

My mom had a set of "Trophy" versions of these (black and grey) in an 88 GLI and they were NICE.  Good bolsters and the color is right for the interior, so adapt them to the rails and good to go there for $100+ less than what the recovering was going to cost me.  I can save those other seats now for the 84 XR-7 project :hick:

This particular style (as do most of their seats) does not have a solid bottom on the base, but rather a sort of rubber "sling" that holds the bottom cushion, and thus your butt.  They're comfy enough.

Hey guys i have access to a set of near mint seats from an 86 302cougar... the ones that have the power lumbar and the support that moves/slides out under your legs and power everything. They are a two tone grey and in great shape! Just don't know if everything works on them as the switches are out of the car but the seats hardly look worn so i would think everything works, but who knows. I can get them cheap as this kid only wants $250 canadian for the whole car.
