Title: Digital Speedo Question
Post by: fordman3 on January 03, 2006, 10:00:08 PM
Hey all,
On my '83 Cougar with digital speedo, is it still cable/gear-driven?  In other words, if I change the rear axle ratio from 3.08 to 3.55 (which is significant), can I just swap out a speedo gear and correct the error?  It's important to me to have an accurate speedo, both from a law-abiding/breaking standpoint, and to accurately keep track of miles driven.  Thanks for any input.

Yes, I believe it is. I think the cable connects to the back of the digital speedo and the VSS is inside the cluster on '83 cars.

For the record, even 85-88 models with electronic speedos (buttstuffogue or digital, they're all electronic) use the same replaceable speedo gear that the Mustangs use...

It is cable driven.

You can still swap out a new speedo gear to correct for the steeper rear-end.
