any chance somebody could school me on HO MAF computers. its time to get it done. from what i understand theres all kinds out there. i pulled a sd computer out of an 87 stang and it was labled 3.0 taurus of all things...this was awhile ago. anyhow...i heard the best factory maf computer was the 93 cobras being it had the most aggressive tune, the next best being the 89 stangs computer? i was just curious as too what the real differances were. thanks guys....john
from what i remember hearing, the 93 cobra comp is the worst of the bunch. i don't remember any specifics, but you might want to browse around corral and stangnet. or if i'm feeling unlazy i'll do it. :) i could be wrong.
Go here: http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=62 and download Part 2 “EFI Shopping”. This is the definitive guide for ford EFI computers! It's also probably the best web site dedicated to ford fuel injection.
1989-93 Mustang 5.0 MAF computers will be marked with one of two calibration codes: A9L (manual trans) or A9P (auto trans). Either will work fine for you. The 1993 Cobra was specially calibrated for the car's 24 lb/hr injectors and mass air meter and should be avoided unless you are running those injectors.
That's about as simple as it gets right there. ;)
awesome guys, thank you very much ;)
now, does anybody got an extra one.....?
Dont want to hijack the thread but the Mass air EEC i got (by accident) is labeled D3D not A9L or A9P what is the difference in the codes?
From fordfuelinjection.com
"1989 – 1993 Mustang Computers:
These are typically the most desirable Ford (MAF) EFI computers. These computers can be identified by the following program codes;
A9L, X3Z, A3M, A3M1, D3D1, S0Z, A9S, A9M, A9P, C3W, and C3W1. These are all Mass Air controlled and have an almost endless support network in the aftermarket world."
The X3Z is the Cobra computer which you don't want to use under any cirspoogestances. If ya want to know more, click on the link I posted above. Hope this helps...
