im wondering if a 3g set up will work on a 84 5.0 engine. as we all know the 84 uses 2 belts. a vbelt for the power steering and a rib belt for the alt and water pump. and the alt is a hinge point or tention for the ribed belt. now would a 3g fit and work properly with the 84 set up? or would i have to change the braketry compeletly?
bump> Nobody has a awnser??? well id like one asap cuz i need to figure out what route im taking for my alt. cuz i need one now!
well man does it have the moutning ears right above each other or ofset and the belts shouldnt matter that is just a matter or swapping the pulley
pa performance does sell a 3g with the 2 v belt pulley the question is would the mount points match up. maybe send them a email or look around their site
thats my question would i really need to change out that bracket i have now for a larger one. or one that will fit the 3g. but ill smap a pic of what im talking bout and post it soon.
As long as the mounting tabs are 180 degrees apart the 3G should fit. Its housing is slightly larger than the 2G (or 1G) but it's not massive - you may simply have to grind the bracket down in some strategic locations.
Wiring is a different matter, but is easily overcome. Your car has an external regulator while the 3G has an internal one. I'd done up a diagram to show how to convert:

I've got a 3G on my 84 T/C it bolted right in and all I had to do was swap on my 2v pulley. I just had to keep the spacer from one of the alternators. I believe that it came on the 3G. The one I used was from a 94-95 stang or the 94-95 crown vic. hope this helps.
helps greatly. thank you. but i gound on the alt thats in my car the top wite looks like to be drawing power back from the battery unless thats whats hooked to the battery to keep it charged up. but i belive thats the sorce of the drain on the car.
