Title: ...And a happy fvcking new year!!!
Post by: Thunder Chicken on December 30, 2005, 03:37:17 PM
So you all know about my Volvo engine fiasco and having to drive the Thunderbird while waiting to get the car back. Well it appears the Gods of fate aren't quite yet finished playing with me. I borrowed my father's truck to go to the cottage because the dirt road the cottage is on gets very icy, and he took my Thunderbird to work. Well today I get home from the cottage and find this in the driveway:

So this makes two times in the past two years that I've lent my father my  car to go to work, and two times that the car was broken into. If you look closely at the pic you can see the damage on the door window frame from the first break in. At least this time they didn't get anything (I defy anyone to open the locked door by sticking their arm through the hole). To top it off, as you can see in the pic, it's raining out. I can't even stick plastic over the hole because the car is wet.

I'm really not sure I can handle this bullshiznit right now. I think I may just take up drinking...

Looks like the insurance company is pissed you got money out of them.

Hopefully this run of bad luck will subside.

I'd hate to use the line but I will.
It could have been worse...
Atleast they didn't try to pry the door open.
Your luck should start changing soon. I think everyone hits a time where they have a run of bad luck. I really hope it gets better as yours seems to be endless.

Drinking is always fun, but try not to over do it.  (With the amount I drink I should have no right to give that advice but I thought I'd try.

While not as bad as your luck, I once got two traffic tickets and got into my first accident (not my fault) in one week.  This was followed by my snowmobile sinking.  Two weeks later I knocked out a tooth, when a break spring (the type of the old rear drum brakes) with a mind of its own snapped and hit my front teeth.

I hope things go better for ya next year.

If it wasn't for bad luck dude, I don't think you'd have any at all.

Man that sucks.  Why can't people leave other peoples shiznit alone?!?

Hope your luck changes soon man.

Gotta love the Holiday season.....2 Years ago my wife's car was broken into the day after Christmas.  No real damage to the car but, they did manage to take some items from the trunk.

No one in my house was to happy all day today. Now the wife wants me to find another one.

. Yeah and to think I had a good New Years. Got the paperwork for the Escape 10 months to the day after I requested, Got $100 for sitting at a wedding watching drunk people. It'll let up though. I waited forever for paperwork on that  Escape, barely passed a few classes Sr High, and heater core went. I think that shame 302 is right they come in 3s.

Just so you don't feel so bad, here is what has happened to me since the ball dropped:

-Recieved a "Juror summons" in the mail for the end of Jan (jury duty, yay)
-Got the flu which topped out with a 104.5* fever that had me seeing things
-The flu left me with pneumonia
-When I went to go to the Dr's for the above my insurance canceled. I changed care providers at work and one dropped me 7 days too soon... ack!
-Found out last night my grandmother has breast cancer

If this is what 2006 is going to look like Im going to stay home and pull the sheets over my head.

Wow! Hey TC (and everyone else), I hope your year only gets better from here on out.

Not trying to be preachy or anything, but one thing my dad taught me well was to always buy your cars brand-spanking-new (except for the "project" Cougar and T-Bird, obviously) if possible. There's no telling what the previous owner did with the car, even if everything seems normal. I remember on our old Mazda, we were changing the spark plugs when part of one broke off and fell into the engine. The car ran fine afterwards, but my dad spazzed out and traded the car in the next week because he felt something would be damaged for sure, and would manifest itself at some point down the road.

It's that kind of stuff that would make me wary of any used car - maybe the oil was never changed until it was sale time? etc. We've gotten burned a couple of times just like you were, so now our commuter cars are bought new. I'd rather have a brand new Hyundai than a used BMW. Can't put a price on peace of mind, the confidence you have in your ride, and the leverage you have against the dealership that sold you the car.

Now, see, I would never, ever buy anything brand new. I'd rather take my chances with a problem than take a 30% depreciation hit as soon as I put license plates on it. That being said, I'd never buy anything newer that didn't have a warranty...
