Title: ignition coils
Post by: greg wys on December 26, 2005, 09:59:59 PM
I was wondering if anybody is running a high output coil on their 3.8 engines or if anyone had some feedback from someone that did. im mostly interested in any problems like fires or melted wiring.  My brother had a tempo we droped a mallory high output coil in and fried a fusable link on the baterry side of the ignition harness.  My cougar is a 87 cfi, any info would be appreciated

Hi-Po coils on stock motors are a waste of money......the stock Ford coil is better than you'll ever need. Even on a big HP 5.0, the stock coil is fine and will easily support 500 rwhp.

I agree with Hawk. Assuming it is working properly, the stock coil is all you would ever need
