Well, about two weeks ago, the neutral safety switch(dubbed by Ford as the Manual Lever Positioning switch) decided to take a on my mother's '94 Crown Vic. I replaced it with a Wells brand unit from work. The other day, she tells me it's doing the same thing...I'm getting pissed off. I guess tomorrow I'll try the local Ford dealership, but in case I can't get anything, I will jump the wires to get it started....my question is, does the AODE rely on that switch for any operating functions...could she drive it like that if the switch needs to be ordered.
Thanks,
Don
Yes, the AODE requires inputs from the switch. See the attached diagram (look at the right side of the diagram - the switch looks like it works the same way as the cruise control switches)
What are the symptoms? No start? No shifting? No backup lights?
It just wasn't starting...but yesterday, I was going to check it out and figured I would try to start it first. I got half of a crank before it quit, so I kept the key in the "start" position and pulled up a little on the shifter with my other hand. Sounds like it just needed to be adjusted.....BUT...now everytime after that it started up fine, regardless of the slop in the Park position and in neutral...I guess I'll wait for it to get worse.
