Not sure.. I don't recall if those were front engine or rear engine. All I know is that it's a little 3-cylinder turbo-diesel.
Given the right situation, (and ONLY in that situation) I wouldn't mind driving something like that for the mileage.. but it would pretty much be if I went back to being a document courier, which isn't likely anytime soon. In that situation, it would hardly ever see the kind of speed they're showing in that video. (although, yes, a head-on impact with another car moving in the opposite direction at lower speeds would simulate the same impact ashiznitting a wall at 70)
Link dead ended me to a list of popular movies. But reading you guys comments I can tell you're talking about the SmartCar vs. Concrete Barrier video. Pretty ed amazing that the shiznitbox held up so well.

I think it held together very well considering how hard the impact.
Both doors functioned (Passenger's like nothing heppened).
The shell barely bent on the drivers side I noticed.
How did they get it to drive w/o a catapult or track ? Remote control I guess but it looked like seemless integration unlike the one Mythbusters used on the Crown Vic.

The car held up better than even I would've thought, and I don't really subscribe to that big-car bias that a lot of people have.
As for the cat video.. I think that guy was trying too hard to be as dorky as the Star Wars Kid.. came close to succeeding, but not in a manner that would be as memorable as Internet oddities go. That was a "hey, look how odd I can pretend to be on camera" thing. Yawn. Wouldn't even merit posting on Consumption Junction. :p
Cant say anything that hasent been said about that smart other than the amazing fact that it was still in existance.

I don't necessarly have a big car bias I'm just worried that with all the nut balls in Suburbans adn Expeditions that I might not be too well off in an accident. With the size of some of the vehicles we have here the Smart Car might not fare too well in an accident.

I wouldn't have a problem driving that around town all day at 35-45 mph.. big SUVs (or as I call them now, "foofoo trucks") :p and all. 70 mph into a concrete wall and that's how it comes out? .. and it even moved the wall. Much more serious of an accident than that, and I think any car I'd be in would kill me anyway.. SMART car or otherwise. I have no illusions that driving my LSC into a brick wall at 70+, for example, wouldn't have me wearing a 5.0 HO as a belt buckle. I wouldn't even want to see how my truck would hold up to that.
I do have one problem with those cars tho what the hell is a 6''3' guy such as myself susposted to do for room in one of those and furthermore what kinda injuries am i going to sustain because this thing was built to break around me?
Sometimes it's better if the car breaks around you and you don't break. The height thing I couldn't tell ya. Mabey they need a tall roof version or something:D . Oh that 5.0 HO would be one hell of a heavy belt buckle;) .

I wonder how the cornoring in those smarts are with thier small wheel base and all.
The engine is actually behind the driver/passenger, and under the cargo floor. That explains why it didn't just flip right over the barrier.
I think the only downside would be the golfball from a baseball bat effect. The car would stay intact, but you'd be punted into the woods. Still, I'd go with zero passenger intrusion for the win.

You aren't kidding. I work in a public library and I deal with kids every day. We get some of the dumbest kids ever in there. For example a typical conversation goes like this:
Me: "Can I help you?" Kid: (a 4th grader) "Yes I'de like to check out these books." Me: "Ok can I have your library card?" Kid: "No I forgot it." Me: "Then you can't check ou these books." Kid: "Does that mean I can't check out these books?" Me: "Yes." Kid: "So I can't check out these books?" :dunce:
They must teach listening in fifth grade now.
