Title: fuel problem
Post by: mpd86 on December 10, 2005, 12:52:43 PM
Having a fuel system problem on on 1986 3.8L engine. Car is hard to start, idles poorly, runs poorly and sometimes cuts out while driving. You hear a lot of clicking noises coming from the rear passeneger area of the car. Noises coincide with sputtering problem. Clicking noises occur even after car is turned off. Any ideas ?

sounds like the fuel pump is shot.  I dont know about any relays or anything but Ford fuel pumps get real noisy when going south. Hope this helps.

He's prolly right,  For grins and giggles I would check electrical connections first but youll prolly be getting a new fuel pump.

Ending up replacing fuel system relay which stopped the clicking issue and the fuel filter which was almost totally blocked.
