Title: premium sound question
Post by: monterey1962 on December 07, 2005, 02:25:19 PM
I searched, but didn't find my answer.  The stereo in the Cougar is pretty much shot.  How do you tell if the Cougar has premium sound?  My '88 Grand Marquis had premium sound from the factory and the only ways to tell was by the "Premium Sound" badges on the door speaker panels and by the external amp in the trunk.  Did the Cougar have the external amp in the trunk and panel badging for Premium Sound?  I ask because the stereo face for the Cougar and Grand Marquis are the same.  Wondering if I can just toss the GM stereo in without trouble.

Swaps no problem... If the Coug has Premium Sound it should have the badge on the speaker grills, and definatly the amp in the trunk... Either way, those heads will operate with or without the extra amp... The heads that were used with premium and EQ cannot be used without the extra amp...

I installed the stereo from my '88 GM in the Cougar today.  It hooks up and works fine.  In fact, both stereos had the same part number: E6DF-14A459-C.
