Title: truck intake in t-bird?
Post by: SLEEPER T-BIRD 87 on November 26, 2005, 01:05:09 AM
Any benifits over the h.o intake?
I know a systemax and saleen upper fit. but how does the truck upper perform. I am looking to keep torque and gain a little more flow.I know a few cars in the early 90's ran 10's on a modified truck intake.
I do not want to here about gt40 or explorer, edelbrock or per. products I cannot afford them and do not like there looks plus the truck intake was free.
I know there is hood clearance issues I plan on having it cut and sectioned.Just trying to warrent putting it on.

what's it gonna hurtt ?! better flow ?!
you'd think a truck would have better low end trq..cause..well it's a truck not a top speed machine?!
what kind of motor are we talking about ?!

It is a S.O 5.0 that will have the mods below when done
b303 camshaft
ported e7's
60mm t/b
1-5/8 long tubes off road h and mac lers
mustang ecm and 19lb injectors
3.73 gear
undedrives ,electric fan
I am looking to not loose torque and gain some mid range power.

ohh, in the 5.0's, no, truck mani's to my knowledge are no different than car manis..
i think the only ways to go are the edelbrock manis...(i know..there a whole bunch of money,)
but i think that it would be a waste of time getting all the parts and gaskets nesscary to do the swap,
i might be able to see it if the truck was a 5.8, the ports may be a hair bigger, and i know the 5.0's and 5.8's had the same intake setups.. but it's not worth the coolant, and the time, and money for gaskets..by the time your all into it..you coulda just waited for a trick flow or some thing....
p.s, this is fuel injected right ?!

actually the 5.0 truck intake has larger ports then the 351 I know it sounds crazy. the lower is very similer to the holley systemax.
It would be apart i was planning to put in the cam and heads at the same time.
and yes fuel injected:D

all you can do is set the side by side and find out which one has the bigger ports....hell... do a little bit of grinding on them..
but don't smooth them out to much, for you want the rouch edges..for air mixture... wait...that's on the old carbed cars..never mind..for get that...make it smoothe as hell !! a good set of heads and a cam alone will make that thing fly,
i hate doing multiple item swaps at once..you never know what part did the most for your car,

The truck intakes have nice big rectagular runners that are long and make for good torque and airflow. Problem is the uppers are very tall and won't fit under a stock bird/cat/mustang hood. The ones I've seen have the dual TB setup as well

I'd be willing to bet any low rpm torque advantages just went out the door...

even with the runners shortened 1-2 inches they are still pretty long. Im not looking for a stump puller just do not want to loose what little torque i have now.
Plan #2 was to find a systemax or saleen upper but there pretty high:flame:
Plus the twin throttle body setup is equal to a 70mm single throttle body:D All still in planning phases may just stick me a performer rpm and a 600 vac secondary...

That's a lot of air. How far are you gonna go with the port job on the E7's?

B303: 284* duration on both intake and exhaust, .480 lift intake and exhaust with 1.6 ratio rockers. basic operating range 3300-5100 RPM. My guess is it'll be real close.
