im looking for a C4 to replace my Aod. (or a C5) big or small bell i dont care. but ive read about the oddball 143 tooth flexplate one. and think i keep running into it. i have run across a few c5's but the fluid looks good but when you wipe it on a rag black band looking material is on the rag. anyway i found a good C4 but it's behind a 200 I6 now im prety sure 250 + carrys the bell bolt pattern for a 302 corect?
Erik
the 250's I think are a big block i-6, same with the 300's. I think they are the same, I got a toploader tranny out of a 300 i-6, I could prolly get a few pics. I think the 200's and smaller are considered sb i-6's and are diffrent, I am not sure though.
The 250 small-block I6 is the only small-block I6 with the 3.8/5.0/5.8 bellhousing bolt pattern.. and yes, the 240/300 big-block I6 also shares the bolt pattern. All other small-block I6s (144/170/200) use their own bolt pattern, but according to Chuck and a few other sources, it's very similar. (similar enough to possibly mod one onto the other)
ok guys thanks for the info. guess i'll move on to the next one
I might be buying a 351 with a C4. Dont know what to do with em yet. If I dont end up using it Ill sell it.
The bellhousing is removable on a C4.... Would just need to swap to a 5.0 bell...
now thats what i wasnt sure about. if the 143 interchanged with the 157 one. i know the 16? something is a totaly difernt way of bolting up and case.. but i was gonna run the converter that comes with the trans..
The '81+ 200's use 2/3's of the 302 bolt pattern. The upper two holes are lower than those on the 302. The rest of the mounting locations and the starter are the same. The earlier 200's had a different starter location (amoung other issues)
and as mentioned before, just get a 302 bell housing, no big there for the c4's.
