Is that something like, where each seperate gear has an overdrive. Like 1, 1od, 2, 2od, etc.

Just like Cougrrr302 said, except there was no 1od: It's a four speed tranny with an additional overdrive unit tacked on. Overdrive is accessible in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears, hence the "4+3"

Another intresting fact..  No Corvette ever came with a 5 speed.  either 4 speed,  4 + 3, then 6

You could sorta make one for yourself if you got a 4-speed plus a gear splitter. (of course, it would then be a 4+4) I've thought about that possibility. I've found a few different gear splitters.. even one that mounted between the bellhousing and the main transmission on some truck 4-speeds. There was one truck 4-speed I found.. T18 or 19, I think.. that had some pretty sick first-gear ratios available.. (we're talking like 6:1) but I have no idea if they'd even fit in one of these, with or without serious modifications.

I was really hot to use a splitter for awhile.. now I have other possible plans. They're pretty expensive little units. ($2000-3000, if I recall)

that they're expensive as heck is one thing, but a t-19 would not fit under a 'Bird without some big ole dents in the tunnel...
They mainly came under 4x4 trucks and stuff.
I guess they put the mazda 5 speed that the f-150 got in the '90s, but I don't see how it woulda fit...??

I have a t-18 I think in my dads van,(just got rid of a extra one too) And it looks smaller then a t-5. Its definetly smaller then an AOD.
