Title: What's your daily driver?
Post by: thunderjet302 on November 18, 2005, 03:28:50 PM
Just wondering what you guys drive ever day if your Cat or Bird is a second "fun" car. Since my Bird is in storage till April I get to drive this lovely machiene all the time. It's a 1993 Buick Century 3.3L V6. This isn't my car in the pic (I can't find my digi cam:mad: ) but mine looks just like it except the molding is silver like the rest of the body. I know it's a GM but heck it was cheap and it's reliable so I figured what the heck. The two good things about it are 1. cops don't pay very much attention to silver Buicks and 2. it has a front bench seat:ies:  :D

Currently the sport... The t/c is replacing that as project car. As of Christmas the daily will be a 99 Intrepid SE... Nothing special, but a decent daily and not terrible for a FWD car. Mom's old car I'm getting a great deal on.

Used to be the Cougar until Feb. '05. Now it's an '05 Hyundai Tiburon. Well, it's new, I can afford it and what better way is there for a 20 year old to build credit. (http://img189.exs.cx/img189/6831/tiburon17nn.jpg)

Either my 88 Cougar or my 90 Mark VII. My 'special' car is my 1971 429 Cobra Jet Mach 1, of which I am the original owner. It usually only comes out on nice weekend days.

my 96 2wd reg cab 4cyl 5 speed stepside stranger....im either looking to replace it because im sick if the repulsive NA 2.3 but ive also been looking into either a 5.0 or 2.3 turbo conversion for it. that would make it a project though....not the best thing to do with the daily driver ya depend on....

Currently my 88 Bird is my daily driver (I've put 40,000 km on it in 30 months!!!) but I have a winter vehicle as well - 1988 Dakota 4X4. Currently it's at the cottage awaiting a custom wooden box (the old one rotted off and it ain't worth getting a good steel box for). Hopefully the box will be on it before the snow flies...
I hope to be buying a Volvo 850 or V70 turbo wagon before the end of the new year as well, provided I can find one and funding falls into place

Don't feel too shameful, man... :D Our cars are twins! And mine has 10-holes on it.
I'm driving this slow turd because it was $650 and my old mustang bit the dust. This pic is actually from right before I started driving it last year, this side of the car is all scratched up now from where I ran into a hedge last winter :bricks1:.
I can't complain too much though, this car regularly averages 29-30 mpg.

'04 Monaro ;) (don't hate me). WOW what fun. Not quite as brutal with acceleration as my 5.8L 5 speed 88 XR7 was, but still does the job nonetheless. Interior is comfy as hell, clutch is easy to modulate, handles like it's on rails and it has that classic hot rod rumble on the outside (fairly quiet from the inside) 10,000 miles on that clock and a killer deal at that . . .
Best part is it gets 26 mpg on the hi-way and averages 21 mixed/slightly heavy footed.

Yup thats the same reason I put side exhaust on mine last night. Too cheap to buy all the crazy bent pipes to put the right stuff on it.

Three cylinders of fury!!!! Yeah Baby!:flip: I actually got my ass handed to me regularily by tempos in the far red one(only runs on two cylinders, burnt valves in one), the coffee can, ground effects, spoiler, painted interior, tach, and stereo didnt add as much power as I had expected:mad:
The one with no wheels used to do great 3rd gear smoke shows till my buddy and I split the tranny off roading/jumping it and killed the tranny
Now driving the silver one and might be buying a turbo sprint in a few days
Total investment, 3 sprints and 1 firefly(donating its engine to the red one) $450, the turbo is costing me almost that much but its in great shape and they're a blast to drive, theyre like go-carts!

Sure does look fast but it is only a 3.8.I put the 99 Cobra front bumper cover on and the 03 Cobra rear spoiler.Dont get me wrong, for a 3.8 it will keep up with a GT but thats only because of the 3:73s and the SCT chip in it.

My brother's ex had an '87 turbo Sprint back when it was new. That little fvcker FLEW! I'd love to have one in good shape. Actually, I'd like to have the drivetrain from one and put into a newer Metro/Firefly body

My TurboCoupe is going into the garage tonight when I get home. I spent lunch break at the car wash cleaning it inside and out..
Tomorrow I start driving my winter car.. a 1987 Mercury Marquis Colony Park station wagon :D
It's a rust free / dent free Florida car I just bought off a 89 year old guy. Loaded with every option except leather. It's got the fuel injected 5.0 liter, a full posi 3:73 rear end and true duals. He got the car new and had the rear end replaced for towing his boat. He never calibrated the speedometer though cause it reads 95 - 100 when I KNOW I'm only going 65 - 70. It's a great cuiser for going back and forth to work (or Home Depot for that matter). You can put a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the back between the wheel wells and close the taligate.. it's very large~
