Question: Name My Project
Title: Project Name
Post by: DakotaEpic on November 16, 2005, 06:19:14 PM
Ok, so I have oficially started the savings for my project.  It took me long enough.  I was supposed to start saving back in August, but things kept needing fixing, as always with these cars.
However, here is the breakdown.

Stage 1: Drivetrain.
5.0 roller block
AFR 185 heads
1.7 roller rockers
Probe forged pistons
Forged I-beam rods
24# injectors
Undecided on camshaft
Underdrive pullies
3 row radiator, with tranny cooler
Electric fan
Cobra intake
Upgrade to MAF
True dual exhaust hopfully utilizing Flowtech Warlocks and some Electric cutouts
C6 transmission
B&M Megashifter
Turbo Coupe rear end with 3.73's

Stage 2: Tire & Wheels
Torn between Cobra R's, and 10th anny Cobra wheels
5 lug swap
A good street radial tire that looks nice

Stage 3: Suspension
Mustang springs
Rear control arms from CHE
New bushings
New shocks

Stage 4: Brakes
Big brake kit from Wilwood or Brembo

Stage 5: Appearence
Bodykit (hopefully)
New Paint I want a silver or a two tone silver grey combo.
Possibly a spoiler if I find one that looks good.

Optional Stage 6: Fun part
Kenne Bell Blowzilla supercharger
All necessary changes/upgrades

So that is a rough outline.  I have questions on a few things, such as:
1. Any suggestions for camshaft?

2. If I do the 5 lug swap will I be ordering my brake kit to fit the car I got the perts off of, or will I order the closest thing to the Thunderbird, and fork out even more dough, for custom fab?  (I Never knew brakes could be so  expensive)

3. What are options on performance front end suspensions?

4. I know I'll need a custom tune for the computer, but would I be able to have someone out of state do it and send me a chip, or would I have to have them Dyno it?

That is all I can think of for now.  I'll edit and add as I find appropriate.  I know all of this seems really ambitious and unreal, but it's something that I would really like to do, and I'm willing to go prety far to get it all done.  My ultimate goal would be to SC the beast, but I'll only do that if everything else seems to fit together smoothly.  Feel free to put me on the butcher's block too, as the only experience I've had with this type of stuff is only from what I have read.
Thanks,
Paul

Sounds like a very nice set-up, I would look at the TFS stage 1 cam, produces 5 more HP and tourque through the entire range over its equivelents.  Stay away from the FMS Alphabet cams, they were designed on 10 year old technology and do not benefit a FI roller block.

Yes, you order the brake kit for the car you got the spindles from ('94-'04 Mustang I assume).

Kenne Bell's are fun :D

1. I'm using the Comp Cams XE270HR-12 - I like it a lot. The "F" cam also would work well with the Kenne Bell if you decide to go that path, though it's a bigger cam than the XE270HR. Crane 2031, Crower15511 & TFS1 are also decent street cams that'll work with a KB too.

4. Mail order chips are hit-or-miss - a dyno tune would be better. I tune myself with a TwEECer R/T & a Innovate WB.

Yours is actually where I got the idea from.  I just think it looks really sleek.

Anyhow, thanks for all your answers it'll really help.  One other thing, could somone reccomend a good set of street radials?

Ive always used BF Goodrich Radial TA's  and i think the white lettering (dont have to have) Looks really slick on these older cars.

For anyone who watches Futurama.
Mine is dubbed the "MercuFordThunderCougarBird"

My friends are kinda wierd. They made that up, plus a nickname for a 99 sunfire, "Sylvia the Super Seductive Slut"

I used these once. They looked awesome but once they started to wear, they were horrible in the rain and impossible in the snow. But if you're not going to be driving it in these conditions, you have nothing to worry about.

I don't know what to call my car.
A girl when I was in High School named it Merideth and I always called it the "wicked beast of the east" but that's only fitting when it runs right.:giggle:

Heh, I never had to use them in the snow,  Here in Myrtle beach SC, we get one flake the whole state shuts down :D as far as rain, havent had a problem but Im bad about replaceing tires before their time.

Yeah, keeping in mind I live in Arizona, so rain is pretty much never a problem, and snow is outta the question.  It's pretty funny, I would imagine that our winter is the perfect season for drag racing since it only ever gets down to like 60, but most of the time is like 75. Or is that still too cold?

Haha, yeah, but realize that my summer is like a winter for the rest of the country as far as racing goes.  You wouldn't exactly want to be putting your car on the strip when it is 115 out, unless you had some serious cooling action going on under your hood.  Granted it's a dry heat. Haha.

kinda i loved the midwest, might get hot but there is NO humidity,  when its 80 here in the summer with 90% humidity, as soon as you walk out your swaeating.  now try 110 with 90% humidity like a figgin sauna
