i just added up what i have in recipts since iv owned the car
$7,449.98 thats just what i can show but from what i know i have another 4,000 give or take that i dont have recipts for
and this is how it look's with almost 12,000.00 invested well i geuss i cant complain about the way it look's becouse i can blame a very huge portion of it on the fire that almost claimed her..just wondering what every one else has in there's
the first pic is some what current the 2nd was a few years ago the 3rd is the wheels i want and my sig is how i want her
i dont even have 2K invested in my TC
on the red one, i never kept track, but its less than 4K
lets see, 3 grand motor, 400 in the car 500 for the paint and body work (scoop and effects). 200 exhaust. so abour 4K total give or take.
I don't even want to think about it.
Probably around $5-7,000.
Not including the cost of the car of-course.
well maybie it's just the white xr-7's that require so much taste ..aint that right 5.0
no point intended
Well, it's true. I've always been told if it had t*^$ or tires, it's going to give you trouble.
Well my car has been pmsing monthly since I got it.
One day it runs great, next day something breaks and bye bye money.
Oh well, it's almost a new car now... not much left to replace.
oooh...good thread.
about 1100 as it sits with the purchase price of the car including cost of and disposal of the parts car. and whatever parts i needed to assemble it.
doesnt include any new parts wating to go into the car. i was a little supprised at how the cost of stuff sneeks up on you. as specially when your deliberatly trying too look the other way. the problem with that is most people say that as far as a project car goes, take whatever you think its gonna cost to build the way you want to and basically double it. i honestly cant see spending more than 15-18k over time.
reminds me of a quote i heard over at nato...
or something like that....
Which car are we talking about? Which one of the six? :hick:
I have no real idea what I have into them, and I don't care...... ;)
Layla: $1700 car, $300 red parts, $500 j/y car with good engine core, $2000 engine rebuild, so $4500 so far (OUCH!!)
Thunderstruck: $500 car, never moved.
Cougar 5.0: $400 car, $80 tune-up, $65 tranny flush, $545 total, runs great but no OD and a 3.73 rear means 8 MPG
83TC: $400 car, $35 water pump, $435 total, ran great, but the bad water pump popped the HG which still needs to be fixed.
man o man
the 5.0 i have $963.75 in it total
the t/c around 7g's
shame i didnt even think of what i had on the new shelf ready to go in
500.00 95 mustang part car for front and rear suspention
175.00 baer cross drilled rotors
160.00 fenco performance calipers
134.99 duralst gold gear reduction starter for sn95 mustang
80.00 or so in auto meter gauges
the list just keeps going as i find stuff that i forgot about
400 Car without engine...
150 to put the old engine
80 to repair the BHG
700 current engine
100 to uninstall previous engine and put newer engine
500 paint, doing the work my brother
130 For the 4 contour wheels
170 For 4 205 60 15 tires
40 for the rear wing
40 for the illegal windows tint
100 Two batteries
2410, but there are a lot of more things....
And the list goes On, without saying the work done by mom and myself to rebuild the upholstery....
That´s for a rusted car that is not running...
Well, I got the car ('85 5.0 Bird) for $380. Then I promptly spent $50 on a sensor I thought would fix the idle, and I kept on spending money on sensors, about $300 in total, and then some more money on a junkyard harness complete with computer, for another $50, and then one of my friends took pity on me and sold me a Ford stock intake & motorcraft carb for another $50, and I bought a Melling cam kit for $100 which solved the original problem.
I then replaced the fan for $30, the harmonic balancer for $40, the distributor for $35, electric gas pump for $40 or something, and I think that's where I stopped. All in all including all kinds of stuff like oil, tranny fluid, I think I've spent around $1000-$1200 on it.
I plan to soon spend some more money to buy an edelbrock intake and carb to put on it.
2200 in paint
1700 in motor the first time.
3400 in motor thi time.
800 in suspension
300 in rear end
Next is the interior.
about 5500 total including the car...wow i dont feel so bad anymore
darkthunder ~ $5000 including car... =/
tcr ~ $600 and counting, including car. =)
6 gs and im not close to being done with modding..
I've got about $500 in my TC rearend (includes switching everything to rear discs), I think the wheels and tires were like $900, suspension parts I probably have about $400. I also have '92 GT front brakes w/lincoln calipers sitting on the parts shelf. I also have probably $300 in speakers/ radio I'm kinda at a stalemate because I have the suspension pretty much done...so now its time to spend the big money on tranny/motor (which will probably be awhile).
i had 1300 in mine when i let her go. including the 650 for the car.
I think we all are curious, but don't really want to know what eric put into his... :)
okay,
Black car,
$110 for the car
$200 for exhaust
$100 for the timing to get fixed/tuneup
/$60 for junk yard tires
$40 for tc hood
$40 for two "new" doors(that dont even match)
$20 on rattle cans
$15 for a new drivers seat(also dosent match)
$15ish for a FPR
parts that havent been installed yet
$60 e7's
$40 h-o intake manifold
$50 for new egr
$20 mustang headers
So thats $750 on a $110 car
v-6 car
$550 for the car
$180ish for new exhaust
$90(?) for newbrakes/new brake lines
$15 for water pump
$10 for timing chain cover
$10 in gaskets and gasket sealent
$855. Didnt think it was anywhere near that much
the gray cougar
$400 for the car
$10 for ebrake parts
so $410. guess that is my cheap one.
My 88 v6 cougar
$1400 1 transmission
$1250 2 transmi
about $600 on suspension
almost $300 on all the front lamps
about $300 for the engine problem i still cant find
$300 next month for dual exhaust
$340 for new tires
and still going to distance
That's alright man--I won't tell anyhow. ;)
If you guessed a lot of money, pat yourself on the back. But I'm single with no bills...so it's not an issue to me. I think nothing of dropping $5K US into it.
you might have a lot of money in your car, but has it had any virgin sacrafices?
yes o yes very many but nont all virgins
How would you know? Is Tagteam back again?
WHoomp.. there it is!
i got about less than 4k in mine. that includes new everything from the doors to licence plate body wise, entire new drive traine '90mustang, full exhaust, new suspension, and 5 lug cobra brake conversion, o and some interior stuff includeing headunit & speekers...
i got my shopp'n skills from mom :)
Car - $3200 (Yup, I'm already on the high side of that)
Body & Paint - $300
Tranny - $700
Clutch - $150
Heater Core - $800? (that's mostly labour, and was done at the same time as tranny/clutch)
Brakes - $700
New VAM - $300+ (I can't actually remember)
Alternator - $150
Starter - $150
Fuel Pump - $75
Tires - $750
Fog lights - $20
Spare block and head - $50
T3 .60/.63 - $200
Labour on half those items - easily $2000
Ouch........... $9525. :bs:
I honestly couldn't tell you what some of those parts really cost. I'm doing my best to guess.
I'm now into my truck for around $4G, and that's even worse.
The first fact of life. Cars are expensive.
The second fact of life. Double that expense for Fords.
.............$9500.................that's just depressing.
Who's idea was this again? :flame:
*Edit*
I remembered another $1G worth of shiznit. :raspberry
*edit2*
Oh, add a repaired passenger window, drivers seat, and a Gillis Valve to that list. I'm done trying to figure this out. I can guarantee I've forgotten others, so we know for sure I'm over the $10G mark.
****! I'm selling this POS!
To much in it now might as well keep it.:giggle:
Hehe, we all put so much into these things and as more goes wrong, we just put out more money to fix them
Oh, going over specifics, including the price of the car $900, all my work performance wise and repairs (list too long to post) actually comes to almost $9,000 estimated. That's a wee bit more than I thought.
I won't sell!! My car will not defeat me!!
Hmm...I know I don't have too awfully much in my Thunderbird. I'm not gonna count expendables such as tires.
$1250 purchase price
~$400 for exhaust
$1200-ish in the new engine (including intercooler and all that stuff)
$100 worth of gauges
And we'll say around $300 for miscellaneous items (speakers, etc)
So that gives me a total of about $3250. Hell, I've spent over $2500 just insuring the car in the 3 years I've owned it:bs:
I wouldn't have either, had I bought all seasons, or replacement tires.
My '88 5.0 TC.... In a little over 8 years of ownership approx $9000-9500. Worth maybe $2500.
My '69 428 Cobra Jet Fairlane... Owned 32+ years maybe $6000-$7000, but worth probably $25K.
Something is wrong with this picture...:screwy:
BTW the $1500(plus interest on a two year loan) I orignally paid for for the Fairlane is approx $7000 in todays money, definatly not a bad deal considering its value now...
And a pretty fairlane it is, worth every penny
Ive spent way more on my Cougar than I spent on my fully loaded 2005 Mustang GT Convertable.........
My old V6 had one of those:D
Funny you should mention that. I've always thought that both cars and real estate in the U.S. have both gone up in price at a ridiculous rate compared to other items. I won't tell you what I payed for my house 14 months ago but, I WILL tell you that if I had to buy it at the price some of the houses around me are going for now I could NOT afford it. On the plus side I already have equity:hick:
ALL of us have been defeated by our cars already. They seduce us into sinking money into them and make us like it!
Ohh I forgot the car cost $28,000 back in Nov 88 plus the rest of thinks I mentioned early
I just got done adding up all my receipts that I have, and all I have too say is HOLY POOP!!! So far, in just shy of 2 years of ownership, i've dumped approximately $4500 into the beast. This is money spent on general repair, mistakes i've made, and on a car that was given to me by my sister (aka free). The list so far includes:
$400 in stereo components.
$800ish for the oil pan replacement fiasco.
$200 in rear suspension parts.
$250 in transmission work.
$300 something for exhaust work (more to come).
$300 for tires
There's a whole lot more for the list, and even more to finish. Obviously I could count gas and car insurance, and that would probably put me near $6500 - $7000, but i'm sure that it would jack everyone's cost of ownership up. All in all i'd have to say I don't regret it overall, though there are a few thing that I wish i could go back and do differently.
Well I only have $1500 in it which is the price of the car. Unless you want to count the price of all my parts cars, which were bought driven then parked for various reasons. Then the total comes to right around $12,000. So I have 3 complete drive lines and all that good stuff.
are you sure its not closer to 18k? 28 sounds high. im pretty sure the original window sticker says right around 18k for mine and it was loaded...
like in a post i read earlier this week quoting Mr. Brownstone
"I dont worry none cuz worryin's a waste of time"
I spend money on my car cuz it keeps me outa the bar
but prolly around $400 parts $350 car
It looks like I have about 3,500 in my car including the purchase and all the parts I have laying around that aren't installed yet.
Oh, and I know that Eric didn't spend NEAR as much on his car than he would have if he wasn't The Man and if he didn't get 'teh m4d h000kup' all the time.
shame 302 thats the price we paid here in Puerto Rico for the car in the ford dealer back then in 1988, we had and 82 lincoln continental and gave it on trade in they gave 14000 for the lincoln and we paid 14000 more for the cat, Here in P.R cars are more expensive than on the states
Well I have about $2500 give or take in my project so far.
car $200
about $450 in the motor. free shortblock, $100 for p heads and intake, $90 for e303 cam, the rest for various small parts.
$230 interior.
$220 magnaflow catback
$200 drilled and slotted svo rotors, front and rear.
$525 mach 1 wheels
$300 nitto tires (for front, rears were free)
$80 for 130 amp 3g and e-fan with controller.
$120 taylor trunk mount battery kit.
free TC axle w/3.73 gears.
$50 tokico struts and shocks
the rest in various small parts here and there.  :D
88 Cougar $125
88 Mark VII $800
90 Mark VII $500
all three of them run great, and are in excellent shape. Got to be ready to strike when the oopotunitys come around!
Let's see what I can come up with:
$3500 for the car
$100 for ten-holes (including cost of refinishing)
$400 for tires to fit the ten holes
$400 for custom true duals
$400 for various A/C parts (condenser, lines)
$120 for new gas tank
$90 for new pump bracket
$150 for new radiator
$130 for new 3G alternator
$200 for new passenger window (broken during theft of stereo)
$300 for new stereo
$25 for tripminder
$25 for overhead console
$60 for seat covers to reupholster the front seats
$200 for another pair of tires after the fronts only lasted 15k miles
TOTAL: $6090 for now...
I'm not even gonna try to figure it out to the dollar.....way too many things over too many years but I'll guarantee I've spent over 30K US on it since I bought it back in '91 including the initial investment of $5200 US (by todays exchange rate) to buy the car, fix it and paint it. The rest has been spent on mods with the biggest wallet killers being the engine and current wheel/tire combo........
......BUT IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!:2c:
.....and I'm still not finished.
Car $1,000 (yeah the car in the sig only cost me $1,000:D and it looked like that when i bought it)
Heater core $300 (didn't feel like doing it myself)
$300 for 88 Sport rims and tires.
*edit* almost forgot $600 for rear end rebuild with FMS Traction Lock and 3.73 gears
So $2,200 bucks and it looks like that. Not bad huh;) .
If I kept track I would have given up by now! NOT. I do have a couple cigar boxes full of tickets. I bet some where around 3-4000. And the car was free. I haven't even started on the body. Also no onecan see the suspension rebuild and under coating.
