Gentleman,
My fantastic Chiltons manual has let me down again. I need to know what the color code is for the h20 sensor on the intake and the same for the oil pressure sending unit. The wiring is bone stock, no aftermarket anything ever. My h20 sending unit is a one wire deal. Napa showed a 2 wire unit as the normal unit but, we found a one wire listed also. My motor is pretty tired and takes a while for oil pressure to come up on cold start but it seemed way too long the other day so I changed the temp sensor just in case it was bogus and not allowing my check engine light to go off. Anyway I got thinkin' about it, the wires come from the same sub harness so I thought I'd check to make sure they weren't swapped sometime before I bought this fine specimen. Alas the Chilton manual, while pretty good with most schematics doesn't tell me anything. Does anyone have a Ford manual that wou;d have the color coding. I would be very grateful for any info.
Thanx,
Chris
There are two H2O sensors - one for the gauge, one for the EEC-IV. The one for the EEC-IV has two wires, a black/white stripe and a light green/yellow stripe.
The one for the gauge is a single wire sensor. If attempting to test this sensor DO NOT ground the wire like you would in other vehicles, you will destroy the IVR and possibly the gauge itself.
Or if you don't have a temp gauge but just have the red engine warning lamp, the one wire temp switch and/or the one wire oil pressure switch can ground the wire to turn on the red light.
Disconnect them one at a time to isolate the one that is turning the light on.
The water temp indicator switch wire is red with white stripe.
The oil pressure switch wire is white with red stripe.
Thanx Guys !
I have the stupid "Check Engine" light...I did...it's still there, unfortunately
I'll Check your input out once the sun comes up out here and I'm a little more functional. If I do keep the beast and build a new 5.0 for it, it's goin' full gauges all the way. Not gonna risk a new motor on a stupid light. I'm spoiled with my '95 Rivi. Full instrumentation is so nice ! All I need for that one is a boost gauge for the supercharger but my wife,(kinda/sorta her car) doesn't want me adding stuff. Oh well.....the T-Bird and the other Buick are MINE !
Thanx again in advance, If I have more questions, I know where to ask !
