well i need a new batt cuz now i basically have to keep this one on a charger to keep it alive. im getting paid soon. so i know i need a new batt but don't know what way to go. I have a aftermarket sterio system in the car. and plan on adding more electronics in the future. now what type of battery should i go with. mind you it has to start the old 5.0 in really cold weather here in ny. But any help would be grately appreciated. thank you.
any good, name brand battery would be good
you should worry more about your alternator than your battery if youre going to do a system and extra shiznit
well i have a 100 amp alt but i need a different bracket. plus if i did a 3g alt id still have to change the bracket. but i know i need the bracket off of a lincoln mark vii to make the one i have fit right. but the battery never stays charged and i know its old and it looked like i tit spew some of the water but its all there. so i do belive the batt is on its last legs. to thats my first purchase for it. and an oil change.
I've bought my last several batteries at Sam's Club, in fact got one last week for the old Cobra Jet($41.xx with tax, Advance wanted 59.99 and was supposedly on sale). Also since the Nephews Mustang(recently sold) needed a battery, I swapped the 4 year old Champion(yup Sams)from the Wifes Grand Marquis into the Stang and bought her a new one. Probably gonna get one for the Lightning, as it has a 4+ year old batt. CCA(cold Cranking amps) is whats important, get one with at least 650-700 and you'll be fine.
well i got aftermarket stuff in there too. like a amp. but havent used my sterio system cuz the batt is bad plus i need to get that bracket for the 100 amp alt. so with a new batt and alt i would have a new car almost.
I think I have one of the LSC 100A brackets in my goodie box, Want it for $15+ shipping??
sure let me pull some cash together when i get paid soon hopefully and ill send ya the cash.
I switched from a regular battery to an Optima Yellowtop. Its a deepcycle battery and its pretty nice. It Did die on me sometime during my deployment in Iraq, probly from being left in the car and not started for about...oh a year. LOL But i just brought it back to where i had got it from, and even though the replacement warentee (1 year free replacement) was over by about 8 months, I switched it out for a brand new Optima Red Top..... wich was 50 bucks cheaper, and has a 3 year free replacement warentee. So, I am pretty impressed with their power and with an aftermarket system, a Red Top Optima recharges quicker than a regular battery. And it can take multiple discharges and still perform like brand new. I will never buy anything else. Of course.. it was 119.99....LOL
I am now on my FOURTH Optima red top in 5 years. Granted, there were some alternator problems in that time that I'm sure didn't help with battery life. But needless to say, I haven't been impressed at all with the Optimas. Every time it's replaced I get the same story: "Oh, there were problems before but now they're fixed." Sheeyah...we'll see. :shakehead
In the meantime, my neighbor (great guy but a real cheapskate) has had one bottom-of-the-line Wal-Mart battery in each of his 4 classic cars with no problems whatsoever. One of them is six years old and it's still cranking over his Blazer every time.
You can see what I'd recommend...and what I wouldn't. ;)
well im gonna get a good cheap battery. and im gonna get the bracket from tom once i know the grand total. and put my 100 amp alt in as well and possibly get new diodes. well that little box on the passenger side next to the wheel well.
