Title: Confused
Post by: DakotaEpic on November 05, 2005, 04:50:16 PM
I was looking around online checking out c6 transmissions, and couldn't find any definite print that said whether or not it is an auto or manual transmission.  So I come here humbly and ask: Which is it?  Does it come in both?  Confused, please help.

Thanks,
Paul

P.S. Tranny's are a bit of my weak spot and could use some research if anyone has any links or could point me in the right direction to really good tech articles, etc. etc.  I'd much appreciate it.

C-4/C-5/C-6 are 3-speed autos.

T-5 is a 5-speed manual.

Excellent, so it is basically what I am looking for.  They are meant for high HP/TQ applications correct?  And there is also a bolt on overdrive component for them as well, but that does run a little on the pricey side.

You'll have fun fitting a C6 into a Fox car, if that's your plan. C6's are enormous...

Cool.  I was under the impression GearVendors only had stuff for GM's

Really?  .  It has been done before though right?  What about the C4?

iv heard people fit c4s and c6s into fox cars, but most were c4s. you might be able to get a bullit proof AOD for the price of installing a c4 and modding it tho. even maybe a e4od

How difficult was it to get in?  Did you do it yourself, or did a shop do it for you?  I'm just looking at options, but really would like to go this route.

C6 will fit just fine in a fox car, I've had several in Mustangs and Cougars, not really much difference from an aod sizewise.:D

i done it along with the whole 429 swap ..

on the 5.0 all you have to do is cut the spot welds on the crossmember and slide it to were it meets to the mount. you can  even use the stock mount.

IIRC, there is a small-block C6 and a big-block version. Wasn't there also a big-block C4 available?

For these cars the C4 is lighter, very strong and more managable.

Hmm well thank you all for the input, it's help immensly and is a good platform to take off from.  I'll do some more research on C6 vs C4, but I might wind up going with the 6 because of the overdrive add-on, as this will be my DD as well for a while.
