Does anyone here know the size of the fuel injectors on an SHO.I was looking at one today and noticed the main body appeared to be metal or silver with a light purple or lavender top.Would they work on an sefi 5.0?
Tan top = 14 pound
Orange top = 19 pound
Blue top = 24 pound
red top = 30 pound
Heat will sometimes change the color on an injector. The orange fades on the 19's. I can guess that your SHO's are probably 24's and would not work with a standard SO 5.0 computer.
You could use them with an HO speed density computer if you had enough engine mods and IF you knew what you were doing. To use them with a mass air HO computer would again require enough engine modifications that they would be necessary and a MAF meter designed for them.
SHO injectors fall in to the 24lb category IIRC. However, there is a minor difference in the MTX and ATX injectors. I forget the specifics.
Thanks RT.I kinda figured something like that.
Thanks for the list Paul.Couldn't remember them.
Does anyone know if there are any injectors, larger than 19lb,installed from the factory that would work on our cars.i know of the cobra 24lb and the supercoupe 30lb.are there any others?
If I'm thinking clearly, I was told that the injectors on some of the late 80's- early 90's trucks with larger motors ran 24's. Or atleast that's what I remember the guy at the Ford Performance Parts counter told me. I never looked into it and I'm not sure on the motor sizes or what specific trucks.
But again, everything that Paul mentioned still applies.
Earlier genration lightnings had 24's
Seems to be a good little article here (http://"http://www.summitracing.com/landing/mustang/ln_02feature.htm?ID=%7B40BD2E7F-C-429C-A46A-11656EBE1B24%7D&Type=5")
Nope... Gen 1 Lightnings have 19lb inj(suprised me)as do all truck 351s, the 460s have 24lb.
Tan top = 14 pound (You're off on this one, the 14lb inj are white/light grey)
Orange top = 19 pound
Blue top = 24 pound
red top = 30 pound
Add one more... 36 lb Dark Blue('94-'95 Super Coupe)
There are also the low resistance injectors used in the TC's(but they will not work with a V8 EEC, see below TB info)
Green 30 lb(83-85)
Brown 35lb(85.5-'88)
There were also 3-4 differnt sizes used in the throttle body injection, but all were the low resistance like the TCs.
They were as big as 46 and 52lb units, could be used on a highly modded turbo or V8 with a aftermarket injector driver.
do the sho injectors have the same pulse width ad the v8 injectors though....?
The pulse width is the time in milliseconds the injectors are held open by the EEC, has nothing to do with the inj size or resistance(see previous). A 24lb injecter would need a smaller pulsewidth to deliver the same amount of fuel as a 19lb unit. But you don't up the size of the injector without improving breathing ability.
so does this mean you could use 8 turbo coupe injectors in a v8...because the way i was explained it wouldnt work..for curiosity sake.
Go back and reread all my first post...
You certainly can use low impedance injectors on the 5.0...just not worth it to the average street enthusiast to buy all the necessary supporting hardware.
Tom, did some of the first FI 460's have CFI?
Negatory, the '86 Engine/Emission Diagonstics Manual lists the 2.3, 2.9, 3.0, & 5.0 as having EFI, with the 2.8 and 4.9 having feedback carbs. The 5.8 and 7.3 had std carbs. The '87 manual lists the 5.8 and 7.3 as being EFI, there is no mention in either of any truck/van engine having CFI. When I say EFI it means the trucks did not use the sequential(SEFI) system like the cars, but instead used a batch(bank) fire system that fires four injectors at once.
Cool! This has turned into an informative thread. Thanks for all the info guys.
