I was installing some shorty headers on my 88 Tbird with a V8.However they are hitting the motor mount on the driver side.I only got the frist bolt from the firewall in.The mount would not allow the others to line up.I am not sure of what the header came off of(Mark or Mustang). So what do I do from here?
Exhaust-less
If itshiznitting the alignment pin, cut it off. If itshiznitting the stud, trim it down to the nut. If it still hits, time to dimple the header. I don't think I've heard of stock headershiznitting the mounts.
got pix? i had stock mustang headers on 2 birds and didnt have any problems.
Actually, I have an 85 V6 original now a v8, i had issues with the steering column. had to dimple the headers so to say.
i had to heat and bend the tab on the mount for stock mustang headers and the tbird mounts. the tabs are there to hold the motor if the mount breaks. if thats what you mean anyway....it was more the passenger side than the drivers though.
now that i think of it, the cars i put em on were floor shift. if yours is on the column that might be another problem.
I have a stock set of Lincoln headers on my car now. They fit with no problems.
guess my problem might be the fact i dont use anything stock, could be why mine hit.
I cut the tab that was in the way with a Dremel.
at #5 ? long tubes and some shortieshiznit the top of the mount just dimple the tube or take a die grinder and trim the mount bracket. and you will be fine.
mine is also an 88
DISREGUARD THE RUUBER CHUNK AND HOSE CLAMP ive got a bad mount:(
Alot of times when the header hits the mount is because the rubber part is getting worn out.:D
mine hit the upper bracket that bolts to the engine block:) it dont move:flip:
never had a problem, long or short tubes. :D :flip: ;)
If the mount is wearing out the block will drop, causing the parts mounted to the block to drop.
:D maybe it is these genaric flowtechs i have .
AL GREEN : What brand headers are you using?
Man.Thanks all of you guy for your replys. I am sure that with this much info its as good as done.I went to the junk yard this moring and saw a 87 Mark with headers that were made diffent than mine.
Thanks again:bowdown:
5.0Willgo did the headers your talking about come off of an 87 Mark? The seem like they could fit.
Just get a Mark and you won't have any problems at all, plus a 5.0 HO with headers.
Actually from an '88, but they're the same:D
I'll get a couple pictures of the fitment if you want 'em.
If you could post those pictures it would a big help.Thanks.It may save me a little grinding time. But I will be picking up a set of new motor mounts.I had the motor out of the car\to change the oil pan,but didn,t change think of replacing the mount.
and now one of your sets are one my tbird and they fit fine
