She's okay, just banged up a little. Airbags deployed, of course. A man driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee turned in front of her when she was coming home from work on Friday. Now the insurance game begins.
Ouch!!!
hope she wasnt at fault...good to hear she is fine tho
Nah she wasn't at fault. The other guy was cited for unsafe movement.
wow...thank god she is okay. shame about the car. im not an auto body guy....does it look like they are gonna total it?
I'm not an auto body guy either, but if I had to guess I would say they will probably total it. The frame is crinkled in the front. The suspension is messed up for sure. Radiator was shoved into the front of the motor. Battery exploded. Neither door can open without hitting the fender. Both airbags popped. The insurance company is coming to get it on Thursday and they're taking it to Charlotte for an inspection by one of their guys. If they decide to fix it then we can have it repaired anywhere we want.
I hope they total it truthfully.
Frame being bend is your best chance for it being totaled, Unless its severly bent they can probably straghten it. do you know the value of the car thats what they will go by.
That's the thing. The insurance company does not base their estimate of the car's value on any particular source. So NADA and KBB values are not necessarily what Allstate will value it at. They have an Actual Cash Value for the car. That value is determined by condition of the vehicle before the accident, mileage, geographical area, and popularity of the car in that area. So it's different depending on where you live.
Bluebook on the car is around $7,500 to $8,500 depending on who you ask. We owe $8,000 on it. So I'm hoping they total it, pay it off, and we can go shopping for a GT. :D
Bummer man. Glad she's ok though.
Thanks Chuck. :)
i don't see nothing a strip of duck tape and a squirt of WD-40 can't fix. :D
Joking aside, good to hear she's ok.
Glad to hear she's okay Jim. I would think the insurance would total it. Looks to be a little too far gone and I'd be leary of it if they did fix it but that's just me. Hopefully you'll be able to get a new car.
Have to watch out for those Grand Cherokee drivers. My sister was taken out by one 7 years ago which totaled her Cavalier.
Oh wait, my mom just bought a GC in June.... uh oh...
Ya, its good to see she is okay considering it hit the drivers side.
On another note. Anything can be fixed if you want to spend the money.
i think if that was a gt or a v8 they might try to fix it but being it's a 6 and bent up pretty good. . were the stru towers moved any. did the windsheild break ? but im sure that driverside frail rail is like and acordian pluse the front looks pen 15eyed . well i hope everything works out for you. and glad to hear everyone is ok.
It will more then likely be a total. due to damage and being hit on a corner. I would go cobra shopping insted of gt :)
Yeah the Body Shop I work for had a car like that come in. It was more of a centered impact. They repaired it though. If the frame is a bad as it looks then it will be. Sorry about the car and at least she isnt hurt. Have fun with car shopping though. Dont dissapoint yourself.
sux. Get a cobra for sure.
Jim, was the Jeep driven by a French-Canadian driving backwards at a stoplight?
Naw man. We don't like their kind down here in Nawth Car Line-uh. Unlike Ohio, we don't let people like that down here. :giggle:
Actually the guy was very sincere and apologetic about the whole thing. He called on Monday morning before us to open the claim with the insurance company. We've got a rental car (2005 F150 -- NICE) until her car gets fixed or we get another car.
I'm definitely going to try to convince her to get a GT this time around if we can find a nice one that we can afford. It all depends on how much they give us for the car if they do total it. CougarCoupe88 -- You are right about the frame on the driver's side. It wrinkled up like it was made of foil.
Yikes!!! Sorry to see that Jim. When my car was totalled they kind of screwed me on that type of estimating. They listed the car as average and tried to give me half what it was worth. the car had way below average miles, and the engine was spotless and the interior flawless, and the exterior was flawless but they still tried to to classify it as "average". And the "average" selling cost is much less than what a mint car would be sold for. So instead of giving the $4000.00 for a mint car, they were initially trying to give me $1800.00 which was the average selling cost at the time, which was for cars being sold at $500.00 all the way up to $5000.00. Hopefully you don't have any trouble with them. The adjuster I had had even checked on his sheet things that didn't exist just to get the car into an average classification. He had checked interior tears (was none), chips/scratches in paint (was none), and oil soaked engine (was none). Just make sure the description acurately describes your car. Glad to hear she's ok.
Yeah I'm gearing up for a battle with the insurance company on this one. Hopefully they won't try to screw us over. The car was in perfect condition before the accident. Everything worked, no leaks or problems of any kind. It did have 99,728 miles on it though which will probably hurt us a bit.
It had a full tank of gas. That right there is worth like $300. :hick:
Think thats gonna be totaled? hate to be so blunt but probably not, depends on what car insurance company your with. If its allstate expect them to want to fix it, they fixed my brothers jeep and he rolled it on us 23.
Glad to hear your wife is fine tho.
Well Allstate came and hauled it off yesterday. Before that, they sent a body shop man over there to look at it and he said he thought they would total it. Neither door lines up correctly at all and he said he saw other evidence that it had some frame damage. So we'll just wait and see what happens.
Whoo hoo! We got a call from them yesterday. They valued the car at $8,753.35 which is about $700 more than what we owe on it. That combined with the money they're going to give us for pain and suffering should make a nice down payment on another car.
Cool, glad it worked out for you.
Very cool Jim. Gotta take those victories with the insurance companies whenever you can.
