Post by: Thunder Chicken on November 01, 2005, 09:04:56 AM
And the results are in. The winners of the Fox T-Bird/Cougar messageboard first anniversary draw are:

Kyle Wicklund (Kyle2000) ----> LED Fog Lights
Benjamin Maki (Bird351) ----> LED Fog Lights
Joseph Sluz (Bondocougar) ----> Sequencer Kit
Karl McEvoy (Cougars 2 Go) ----> Sequencer Kit
John Blair (Shame302) ----> Sequencer Kit
Steve Crandall (88SptCoupe) ----> Sequencer Kit

Congratulations! Since I have no idea whos real name corresponds to what username, if your name is above, contact me at thundercat@foxthundercats.com ("thundercat@foxthundercats.com") to claim your prize and to tell me your choice of prizes (remember, you can choose form a sequencer kit, a four-channel wigwag flasher, or a pair of white LED fog lights).

The raffle was a smashing success! Over 60 tickets sold, enough to pay for the website and software this year AND next! To everyone that partited, thanks for your support! And once again, congratulations to our winners!

...And to those that didn't partite, don't feel bad about it. I'll be sending Bird351 to your house to discuss the matter personally

I'm glade it was a success. I don't know what I'd do without this site. I've learned a lot (still learning) here over the past 2 or 3 years that I've been part of this community.

...and Ben, if ya still don't want the prize, PM me and we'll get Thunder Chicken to send it to me if the price is right. ;)

Yes, my name is Karl McEvoy. All these years telling you my name was Adam have simply been a means to this end. :hick:

Oh ! I forgot to buy tickets yesterday! !#%$*&

I do have a question though... If someone wanted to make a donation to the cause, could they?

It's not that I don't really want the prize. Winning anything is nice. It's that I don't really have a current use for any of the stuff offered. However, I think I'll take the fog lights, and use those on the '86 T-bird project once I move forward on that. (the sedan delivery conversion/engine swap/etc.) I'd request a small modification to them, but Carmen said as-is in the drawing thread.

Good to see that it came out better than expected or even needed. A buffer/cushion is always nice.

Donations are always welcome (hell, I'll NEVER turn down money :D), but at this point they're not necessary - the draw has paid for two more years of the messageboard.

There likely won't be a draw next year, since we're paid up. If I do have a draw it might be for charity, such as Christmas Daddies, hurricane (or whatever the disaster du jour is next year) relief, or something to that effect

Keep up the raffles each year, this board will be around for a long time, and the money sitting wont hurt the board, if anything, it might allow us more features, and say one year we cant afford to pay for it...we'll have the money

Yes Ben, send the Fogs to me.  I'll protect them from potential hurricane damage.

About those Fogs, Carmen, are they available for purchase outside this raffle?  I know I'd seen 'em on your site once before, but I wasn't able to find 'em the last time I looked, yesterday.

Brian - the lights can be bought here:

http://www.foxthundercats.com/electronixx/leds.htm

Even though they fllash in the pictures there, they do have a "steady burn" option for fog/driving light use.

I'm guessing the TCMLED MAXI "STEALTH" SERIES are probably the ones closest to the stock size of the old Marchal fog lamps on TurboCoupes.

Also, is pricing per light or per set of two?

I'm just curious how bright they are...40 of the new(er) 5mm 40k mcd 20° LED's only put out a total of ~150 lumens...300 for both lights. Compared to the usable light coming from the factory foglights/bulbs, 150 is nothing

What about this (http://"http://www.superbrightleds.com/led_info.htm")?

Quote
LED INTENSITY

The unit of measure commonly used to describe LED intensity is the millicandela (mcd), 1000 millicandela equals 1 candela. Candelas measures how much light is produced as measured at the light source.
The candela is the Luminous Intensity, in a given direction, of a source of monochromatic radiation of frequency 540 × 1012 hertz and that has a radiant intensity in that direction of 1/683 watt per steradian.

The unit of measure commonly used for most other light sources is the Lumen.
Lumens are units of Luminous Flux and they measure how much light actually falls on a surface.
The Luminous Flux (lumens) from a light source is equal to the Luminous Intensity (candelas) multiplied by the solid angle over which the light is emitted, taking into account the varying intensities in different directions.
So you can see that it is not a simple matter to accuratly convert millicandelas (mcd) to lumens .

Just curious.. haven't messed with LEDs enough to know if the above applies to the conversation.

The pricing is for each light. I do sell them slightly cheaper for  apair on eBay.

The lights put out a very bright white light, bright enough to nearly blind you when you look into them, but it is not focused like a fog lamp beam is. Truthfully they're best used for looks (as are most of the small fog lights you see). I actually don't have a set on my car because in order to replace my lights the front bumper cover has to come off and I'm just too lazy to do it. I do have an LED flashlight, though, and it seems that in dim light conditions (dusk) the LED light isn't as bright as a regular flashlight, but in total darkness the LED flashlight kicks the regular light's ass. The light it throws is pure white and it seems to capture detail better. I almost think there may be an ultraviolet component to the light output as well, because it seems to make certain things glow
