Title: the new guy with the "FILA"
Post by: cleven on October 31, 2005, 12:11:50 PM
Hello all im new to the board and i own an 1984 ford thunderbird "FILA" model. This is my second thunderbird ever having i recked the first one a fe years ao and its been a long hard search to find the one i have now. Its been sitting for 10 years and i paid 300 for it. Funny thing is i put some fresh oil, gas, plugs, antifreez and she fired right up:locked:  i wanna do a few mild things to it to at least get it to the 200 hp range it should not be to hard i hope. Looking foward to talking to all of you

I have a 5.0 HO in mine, built pretty good, I love the take off, just waiting to get my 9" read.  Gonna gonna use 373 gears though being i still drive it as a daily driver. but man is it bad on gas.

the reason there rare is because only so few were made. and also who knows bout the survival rate of these cars. especially in the north east where they salt the hell out of the roads.

Yeah aren't the HO motors 225hp?  It's all easy parts to find at salvage yards, and run pretty cheap from what I have read.  But congrats on grabbing a fila model bird.

That's cool that someone actually has a Fila.  I saw one in the junkyard and I didn't know what to think of it.  I thought someone was just shoe crazy because that's all I knew of Fila at the time. Welcome.        Jason.

Didn't some clothing come with the Fila cars when you bought em?  Maybe a windbreaker coat and duffel bag?

Sorry, I have no T-Bird info in my inventory. But I know for sure that you did get duffel bags with the Fila logo embroidered on them. I believe the logo was also embroidered in the seats...or at least, the Fila Edition had a unique seat pattern.

The fila's i've seen have white grills and white 8 hole rims and a badge on the front fender.  I don't know how genuine that one is.

fila editions if memory serves from previous research, came with a fila logo on the outside, on the dash and embroidered into the front seats. it also came with a fila "jacket" and bag. It also came with a certificate and a special edition car manual jacket (folder thingy). They were white on white with leather interior. i believe any options could be optioned from there, but can't remember for sure.

wow, that was dusting off some cob webs. i could be wrong so take it with a grain of salt.

The fila I saw at the boneyard also had the fila logo (the bubbly f)  depressed into the rear seat backs.

MDJ1281 actually posted that photo on here a while back.  It's from the 2005 Ford Nationals at Carlisle.  I was at the show myself and saw that very car there.
I think it's pretty safe to assume that it is the real deal because the car was in an area of the show where the partints are invited months in advance.  The cars in this area have a thorough history check and it'd be pretty hard to pass off a fake.

^^ that's right.
Even if one thing is out of place or not original (depending on what it is) you are not allowed in that area of the show. They have the requirements listed on their website.

I looked into it for my cousin for the GM show. He has an all original '80 TA which the only things really not original are the lers. Apparently Flowmaster lers are okay as long as there are no other exhaust modifications.

Wish I could have made it to the Ford show this year :(
