Hello. I'm about to get my license in a couple of months and my uncle is giving to me his 88' Cougar XR7 5.0L V8. It's got about 70k miles on it, but my uncle had just put on new brakes, new tranny, new tires, etc. It's been garage kept for it's entire life and was a daily driver for him for a little while. In other words, I'm one lucky SOB 16 year old. Anyway, my question is, what kind of gas mileage can I expect to get? I know there are a number of you out there with similar cars (duh? it is the cougar/tbird forums). Thanks for reading.
Welcome........I am sure you will love the car......Most get 12-17 city and 22-29 highway. Kinda depends on how heavy your foot is.
Thanks for the info, thats a lot better than I expected to get. I can't wait to get out driving in it. It's in pretty much showroom condition since my uncle collects old cars and owns a body shop. It's got blue leather interior, power seats, locks, windows, etc. Definitly a great machine.
Plan on posting any pics of the car? She sounds pretty sweet.
I'll definitly post pics of the car next time I see her. Probably next weekend or so. It's white with blue leather interior.
No way... blue leather... sweet! Truely awesome. I thought I had one of the only white with blue leather XR-7's left. In fact, I've never seen another one. Please, definately put up some pics when you can. Your car could be my car's twin depending on its options.:D
I can tell you, it's a truely awesome car that will take care of you if you take care of it. Just please do me and everyone else a favor...
You will be just getting your license and these cars are held dear to our hearts. Please don't get over excited and wreck it.
Don't worry about me racing it. I'm in the crowded area that is Jersey and I can't afford for my insurance to go up. I'm already going to be paying about $2400 a year... I'm a responsible kid and I'm too afraid to race anyway. Also, I know the value of a classic car, since I am a car lover. So don't expext me to do any cheesy shiznit to it like putting on spinning rims, py body kits, or any kind of bumper stickers. The most I'll do is upgrade the head unit to something with a CD/MP3 disk player only since the stock one only has cassette. Even then, I'm going to hold on to the stock head unit just to save for any reason in the future. I wont be putting on the py ler tips, or doing any half-assed ghetto mods. If there's one thing I know how to do, it's respect things for what they are... especially classic cars. I hope I can get some pics next weekend!
hehe ive hit 35 plus cruising at 85 mph on some long road trips...
18-24 city and 28-32 freeway
5.0/aod- mods in signature
I can pull about 22 with about 5/8s city driving on my 5.0. I can get about 20 straight city if I take it fairly easy and about 25 on the highway. I must say, it is refreshing to have a new young member that respects these vehicles and can speak proper english. Welcome to the board and, as others have said, post some pictures when you get a chance. I just put some up since it was such a beautiful day today.
