I didn't know if anybody had seen this car on Ebay yet:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mercury-Cougar-TWO-MERCURY-COUGARS-1985-AND-1986_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6339QQitemZ4582785296QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
I almost like the hood setup. I've never seen or heard on this board of a suicide hood setup. The trunk looks a little less practical. The 13-inchers would HAVE to go, whether it's a low-rider or not. Shaved door handles and locks, neat trick, could take it or leave it, as long as there's a backup way to unlock and open stuff if power fails. Just thought I'd be interested in hearing the comments on this one. Enjoy!

All i can say is non functional side pipes WTF, is there a reason to put something so gaudy if it isnt functional. Personally I dont like it, Its not a Jag loose the suicide hood, trunk worthless, door handle heh, Its not the general lee the door handles i think make the cars look good, and if i had to push a button in the grille to get in forget it. Rims my daughters tricycle has bigger rims and tires. basically and bluntly its a riced out cougar and falls in the ranks of tasteless :2c:
No, thats just an extremely horrible try at making a cougar a lowrider...
Suicide hoods make anything short of a vette impossible to work on. Even then, it better be a 4th gen or newer vette or it will still be in the way.
it's not too late to beat that guy senseless is it??????
Well i think u guys forgot about that fact that this kind of hobby u can do what u want to what u want.
Loom at all stang guys making fun of the T birds and cougars.
They all go why wast your time on a Thunderchicken when u can do a stang.
Havent seen one person give the guy probs for doing the work himself.
Gotta give the dude an 'A for effort' though. That car is for someone that wanted to do a reverse-flip hood and trunk but doesn't have the skills or money to do so. Quality of the work looks good enough. I've seen lots of people do up a 3.8 car, post it here with pride, and get positive comments...why can't he get the same? He did something that nobody else here has done (whether we wanted to or not), therefore he has more experience in this area and has more leverage for making judgments about it. I for one commend him for daring to be different. Besides, the rims and sidepipes can always be changed. And his descriptions of both cars seem to be brutally honest...even posted a phone number to contact him. I see nothing that would indicate he's being untruthful.
Still love to know what 'blitz black' is though. Is that a polite way of saying 'primer'? ;)
Well for one, the Hood and trunk are not even done correctly, all they are is two airshocks you can clearly see this from the pictures, the trunk i dont even see a way to secure it closed. The shaved door handles are done poorly, you can see exactly where they were if your going to do it do it right at least. Im willing to bet the hood and trunk are very weak when open, there is nothing to support the weight of the hood. I'm not saying the guy did a bad job, did better than i could have but what a waste, if its built to fail then it will fail.
If it was good enough for him, and it'll be good enough for whoever buys it, that's all that counts really. Regardless of how it was done, the fact is that it's there and its real and not just an idea inside someone's head. And for that alone, I give props to the guy.
I actually don't think its that bad. For a driver it is horrible but it has potential to be a great custom show car. With some work like lambo doors, funtional side pipes and some good paint it wouldn't be bad. It would actually be very interesting and different. Well it's already different so it's headed in the right direction.
That guy did his work to meet his personal standards so if the buyer doesn't think it's good enough, they'll fix it to their standards. There are things that I've jury rigged on my car that I'm sure other people wouln't do. It's fine with me since I did it to my standards but if I were to sell the car I'm sure those things would change. So who cares if the hood doesn't seem secure, it's good enough for him and if the buyer isn't happy with it, they'll fix it.
I think it's pretty ridicuous. Those wheels and their offset in particular. But it's not my car.................. obviously. I have a shred of taste.
Props for screwing his car all on his own?
This reminds me of the show we have called 'Canada's worst driver'. It's more about 'Making Heather feel good about herself while being a bad driver'.
Would you give this guy props?
Man.. I have been trying to track the owner of that down for years. Not only would I give the guy props, if he had a daughter my age, i'd marry her just to be in the family!
..seriously.. no props for design and colour scheme.. not my style.. but props for doing something he wanted to his car and not just sitting around talking about what he's going to do, hell yes!
Did no one see my post ?

:dunno:
Guess i have to give them both Kudo's everyone tried to talk me into a cowl hood (which i think are over rated and that all the rednecks are doing to their trucks, at least in SC) but i dont like them so i decided on the scoop against popular vote, but Everyone seems to love it, or at least in front of me they do. Cops love it to
I'd give the guy props if he never touched a car again.
I guess we're only allowed muscle cars and cookie cutter tbird/cougars on this board. Eric, baXo, and anyone else with something unique, get out.
Im amazed at all the trash talk, and all the comments about how poor it is. Ever hear of "work in progress?". It makes me sick that most of the members on this board will never be able to figure out how to do some of the work this guy did, yes they can sit here and trash talk someone who did the wore, but they dont like it and its not perfect?
I bet i can find flaws and pick apart EVERY car on this board if i really wanted to, or state something i dont like about it, and piss and moan.
People bitch more about what they dont like, then comment on what they do like.
I agree with Tbird232ci that he did what HE wanted to HIS car. Thats good enough for me. Very interesting car, and i like some of his ideas. I wouldnt do it to mine. I would like to meet him though and see what kind of other ideas he has if he can think and build like that.
If no one would dare and do what they wanted then there would be no custom cars, period.
For everyone taking a hissy fit because some of us think it's ugly (heaven forbid we don't follow the crowd today and give this car love) just remember that it will be you calling something ugly tomorrow. It's the internet. Bitching is what we do. Please stop pretending that you don't take part.
The blue Gundam Civic, which was hideous, got props for some top quality fabrication work. This didn't, because it looks like a hack job that he's trying to unload on someone.
Not worth posting about this thread anymore.
Half of u should go buy a civic and a fart can.
Be like everyone else that way u have nothing to bitch about.
Eric's car has a secret paint chip. I've seen it!
Everyone give up on doing different things. All of you's just do a 5.0 HO swap and call it done. Please do NOT think outside the box. I won't bitch too much more about this because as we speak, my car has been sitting for almost a year. I've had a new rear end for it for over 6 months. Why isn't it on the road? I don't have the money right now. Big whoop, wanna fight about it?
Look again. Picture 3. May have to brighten it to see. The hood is supported by flat steel struts connected by a crossbar just above the rad, so they both pivot at the same time. Big springs to counterbalance the weight, which IS supported right in the middle by the rather large brackets. Short metal straps visible at top (rear) corners of hood that will mate with corresponding straps on body to locate/hold rear of hood, with stock latch securing the front. Tilt back, engage straps, push down front, *click*.
(Just like a certain GM car I remember seeing).
The trunk mechanism is shown in pics 6 & 10 (brighten again), which is the same crossbar-style, and you can see the side-channels in the trunk framework that the front corners are guided into before bringing the rear down, again using the stock latch.
The sad part is, had Will or Alex or I chosen to put a reverse-flip hood on our cars, I'm sure we'd hardly get a negative comment. But when a complete stranger does it and decides to sell the car on eBay, all of a sudden it's a feeding frenzy.
You know, what if the dude was a member here and never posted much? If he saw some of these comments he'd definitely have a bruised ego. It's so easy to judge from a low-resolution photo on the Internet, from behind your computer, in your cushy home. But that doesn't account for all the time he actually put into his car. Which is more than what can be said for a lot of board members here. This guy, at the very least, didn't pipe dream. He got off his ass, sweated out the work, and decided he doesn't want the cars anymore. Big f'n deal.
Taste, as always, is subjective and I think that's what people are riled up about. But I still stand by my comment that the rims and sidepipes can be changed, and that most of the tedious work of reverse-engineering the hood, trunklid, doors, and gas door is done, SHOULD YOU WANT A COUGAR WITH THOSE FEATURES. If not...move along...nothing to raise your blood pressure over...sheesh.
Actually, about 2 weeks ago I thought about doing it and now that I now it can be done, I just may. All the negative comments it received here won't stop me.
Exactly.
So many high horses today.
I don't like it. Judging by this thread and it's trends, that means I'm the one thinking outside the sandbox. People shiznit on my car all the time. "What are you talking about, you drive a Thunderbird. lol". Do I cry about it, or move on? There are critics of everything. No matter how good his intentions are, I'm not going to like those tiny wheels and tires offset like that with so much wheel-gap. And the same goes for non-functional side pipes. If this was an import, Eric, I guarantee you'd be calling that rice.
What more can I say?
Hey, it's alright not to like it. It's another thing to not respect it for the time and effort put into it. Again, you're going to have your opinion. That's cool man, you're entitled to it, soak in it all you want. A few of us have looked beyond and seen the craftsmanship.
OK, so what if this car had 16" Pony rims and no sidepipes? What would you say then? Would it all of a sudden be a bit "better"?
And for the record, I don't call anything 'rice'. Imports are fine so long as somebody does a nice job. But that seems rare. ;)
I try not to take part but every now and then it's just too tempting. :bittingTongue
I actually thought the reverse hood was kind of cool. The trunk, not so much, since all he managed to do was make the trunk harder to use, (and make it easier to have wind rip it open at speed). Glad to see I'm entitled to my opinion, though. :) That's the point I'm trying to get at.
For the record, I never liked pony rims. :giggle: Yet another misshap of personal taste. But if it had usefull wheels and even funcional side pipes, it would look like a flat black cougar, with a suicide hood and side pipes. Better, yes, in my eyes anyway. There are ways to be different without using 13" wheels.
If I chose these (http://"http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheels/svt/swap/svt_cobra_r_c_ci3_l.jpg"), I'd be just like everyone else. If I chose these, (http://"http://www.wheelmax.com/_images/products/maglite.gif") I'd be a laughing stock, and you'd all tell me what other wheels I should have gotten. If I buy these, (http://"http://www.wheelmax.com/_images/products/polaris.gif") some would like them, some wouldn't, but I'd be different without making the car look ridiculous.
A little hippocritical dont you think....... what standards are you using for imports obviously alot lhigher than the cougar, Ive seen 100's of imports that make mine, yours and lots here look horrible.
Someone should seriously send an email to the seller of this cougar with a link to this thread, I think he deserves to know the controversy it's causing.
Oh I'm just a big ol' hypocrite, just ignore everything I say because none of it's important.
This thread is like religion vs evolution.. it will never be resolved.
I can tell by the sarcasm that i offended you, not going to apologize for that. I think it rather unfair how you give this guy kudos for Thinking outside the box. using side pipes, shotty handle shaving, a poor paint job, a really bad idea on the trunk lid, Hood is the only thing that is in the slightest nice. But then you make a comment that you have rarely seen a nice import. :bs:
On any normal day, those who like it would say so and those who don't would say so, with no controversy at all. I don't know why this got turned into ..................
this. Someone took offense to others disliking the car. Sounds pretty pointless to me.
Are you buying that car?
No?
Then what's the big deal?
Exactly.
:iagree:
This is all a matter of personal opinion. Agree to disagree...
Should lock this thread.......Your right its pointless, I see people here like cougars/t-birds no matter whats done to it. But if another vehicle is brought up it right away. If a negative comment cannot be made about a cougar or t-bird without getting flamed for it, who is really thinking outside the box.
Alrighty then...as you wish.
:locked: :locked: :locked:
(By the way....if you're still hanging onto the concept of thinking inside/outside the box...for some of us there is no box at all...think about that one....)
