Can somebody tell me if this is a factory job or just a fairly good aftermarket one:

I've never seen a Fox Cougar with a Continental kit on the trunk lid. This car doesn't look bad from the limited angles of the pictures. It's got a vinyl top that cuts off the back corners of the rear quarter windows. How rare is an '88 non-XR7 with a 5.0, floor shift, and buttstuffog gauges? It might actually be worth something. Just thought I'd see if anybody else had caught this one?

Not very they all came that way.
As for the continetal kit I think it is a aftermarket job. Me I'm not to fond of the vinyl top and the continental kit.
That car is weird. It has an XR-7 badge on the rear which could easily be added however, it has the XR-7 pin stripe.
I thought you could only get a top like that on an LS.
So if it was an LS, why did they have an XR-7 style stripe added? The dealer probably put it on that way but still.
Whats with the hood ornament?
Okay, so buy the car, put a normal trunk on it, get rid of the top and the hood ornament and it wouldn't be half bad.
i believe it is an XR7, it has no chrome around the windows, the XR7 is the only one to get those seats, and that steering wheel, and the gauge cluster, but it also has chrome on the body molding
if he listed the VIN, it would be easy
it also has the XR7 only dash pieces
slamedcat,
I was asking how many "NON-XR7" Cougars came with that equipment. It couldn't be all "NON-XR7" Cougars; then every '88 Cougar would have had 5.0's and floor-shifts.
So is it safe to say this is an XR7 just dolled up? I can't see a picture of the side profile or the wheels. It does have dual exhaust, too. I'd buy it just to be different. I've even got an AOD about to come available. Hmmm!

i havnt seen any non XR7's to have all of the XR7 features, but i have come aross an LS with a full digital dash, 5.0, floor shifter, console, and every option
I would say that the trunk is aftermarket. There was one like that on my car when I bought it, and the guy said that he got it from J.C. Whitney in '84. The only thing I like about it is its fiberglass.
you have a floor shifted LS? is it an 87 or 88?
I looked an an 87 LS that had the floor shifter, and it was a V6 model. Fulley loaded, too, but the whole right side of the body was beat in so I didn't buy it. I still see the car on the road in a local industrial park occasionally...
shiznit can that trunk lid:yuck:
It's an '87. Was built in November of '86.
The eBay car is an XR7 with an aftermarket top and trunklid. I've seen similar cars in my area before...this one is about 1.5 hours from home, so I'm thinking maybe a bunch of dealers from around here had a special package available to them.
I've also seen a car identical to this with gold trim and some unknown type of solid grille. Never got close enough to it to find out more, but it had the Cougar emblem debossed into it. Either ABS or fiberglass, probably.
Why would someone do that to an XR7:barf: . I could see if it was an LS cause they were more luxury oriented but the XR7 was supposed to be the performance model. Somebody screwed up when they did that car.
why do I want to buy that car? I'd have to send eric over to get it for me!! I'm only about 2.5 hours from it.
I'm sorry Jim, but it does not appear that you have the power moonroof.
You are the weakest link. Goodbye.
Actually I'm pretty sure the half-shafts on the rear end of that MN12 you drive are the weakest link. Boy. :nono:
That trunk is out of the ordinary. Anybody ever see the 87-88 with a vinyl top and the rear quarter glass cut down to about half the size and three bars over the remaining glass?
OMFG that looks like a Mark VII Continental kit grafted onto the trunk.
I've seen '88 XR7s with 1/2 vinyl roofs before (and I used to wonder why many high performance Fords don't sell well to their intended market) but the 1977-83 hood ornament and that trunk just about knocked my socks off.
I believe that car has "dropped tha bomb on me, baby."
