Title: Don't need A/C.
Post by: 87tbird302 on November 17, 2004, 09:36:47 PM
Well since I figured I hardly use my A/C ont he bird, I was thinking of pulling the whole A/c out. Now my question is... Do i need an A/C delete kit, or can i just rip it all off, and run a shorter belt or what? Anybody done this, maybe you can give me some pointers. Thanks.

Would highly recommend the Ford Racing a/c delete kit (M-8511-A50). Basically it's got a 1985 part number and was original equipment on Mustangs without a/c; Ford just put the parts into their own FRPP kit. Since it's a Ford part it simply bolts on, and you move your power steering pump up. Bad news is, you can hear that pump more when it's higher. Otherwise it's a straightforward swap and fits perfectly. You'll need a shorter belt as well.

whats with that pic in the the engine bay that shows an outline of the belt if ur car didnt come with A/C?  the PS pump is in the same location, and there is no kit. looks like it just goes from PS to the idler.  and i stare at the pully's, and it looks like u can do just that.

I've been looking to replace that hose on mine. But right now with the oil pan absorbing 100% of my attention it's become the last thing I care about.

Here's a pic of the other braket Ford sells to eliminate a/c. This bolts in place of your compressor, and I beleive uses a stock belt. :ies:
