Title: Further proof that the weather is screwed up
Post by: Thunder Chicken on October 09, 2005, 07:23:43 PM
There's a new hurricane (Vince), in a most unlikely place: Just south west of Portugal! It ain't very often you see a hurricane there - in fact, the National Hurricane Center was reluctant to even call it a hurricane because of its location, but it meets the criteria: 65 knot winds, counter-clockwise circulation, and a distinct eye. They said:

Well, if it looks like a hurricane it probably is...
So this means that only Willma remains before they have to start using greek alphabet letters, something that has never happened

There is no Xena, Yolanda or Zoe. The Atlantic basin does not use Q, U, X, Y or Z. They say there are not enough names that start with those letters. Here's a link to how they name storms:

So are those all the names that they are planning on using in the assigned years? or are those just examples?

They're the real deal. The names will only change if one is removed from the list (which will almost certainly happen with Katrina and Rita)

Nay.

Pick up a book on environmental science, I took 2 years of it in college and it really changed my mind on some things.

Actually I was quoting the end of the article that Bird351 linked to.

Oh what's that?  You didn't read the article?  Oh well then I guess that explains your response.  :grinno:

oh, yeah that is wrong

The Sun is actually burning less hot... hence yellowish color. Like everything else we know of, it's following the law of entropy...

How can we know anything about weather patterns on earth or spots on the sun if we only have reliable records dating back a mere 150 years.  That's nothing compared to the length of time earth or the sun have been here.  How can we recognize patterns when we don't have records long enough to have been able to observe them?  Who is to say that the earth has not been through thousands of these "warm" periods and we are only seeing it as global warming because we don't have records of any of the other warm periods because they happened 1,000 or 2,000 years ago?  The data we have is miniscule compared to the weather history of the planet.

There are lots of ways. One is by reading tree rings. Earth keeps it's own records. It's just knowing how to read them that matters.

Somehow Americans are to blame for all of the world's problems.

As far as "global warming" threat, the earth goes through natural weather cycles or trends. How can we even make educated conclusions and theories when we have no idea the weather trends a thousand years ago? I mean we look at the past 100 yrs and suddenly come up with this detailed theory that our large SUVs and R12 freon are causing a hole in the ozone layer which in turn is causing more powerful huricanes and melting of ice caps which will eventually flood everything.

Look, the world will eventually die out, its the second law of thermodynamics. There is no avoiding it and putting the blame on a certain people. Realistically, the pollution from volcanos, salt water, etc release far more ozone pollutants than humans could even think about producing.

But, it seems to be a politically correct theme to blame Americans for everything, even huricanes and natural disasters. Logic and science seem to be taking a back seat to political platforms.

Bottom line...the world will eventually be destroyed, and the only one who controls when that happens is God.

Unfortunately, university sciences are based on political themes slanted to the left, as are the majority of university courses. Luckily, its hard to input political undertones in electrical engineering. ;)

Subtract 2 millibars from this image, and that's what Wilma got down to today. Lowest ever in the Atlantic, since they started keeping records. And it's headed right for my area. (most likely path is 30-40 miles south of me, with supposedly a 50 mile radius of hurricane-force winds)

(Note: The storm has not maintained the intensity listed in this image)

We've tied a record for most named storms since they named them.

We've used up the name alphabet for the first time since they started naming them.

(and I think it's kinda funny that the W name that's never been used previously will almost certainly be retired. This is probably the only time any of us will ever see a storm named Wilma.. so load up on your Flintstones jokes now) :p

We've tied a record for most number of hurricanes in a season.

I believe we've set a record with three category 5 hurricanes in one season.

I think there was more than three. Katrina, Rita and Wilma were all category 5's, but I think there were a few others - I seem to remember when Rita achieved 5 status the NHC said "And yet another category 5 hurricane in the atlantic basin", as if it were becoming monotonous

*EDIT* I just checked - there were indeed only three 5's, but Dennis and Emily both came close at 150 and 155 MPH winds

poopypen 15,,,,,lol,,, wtf james?

but i agree, the earth is a living thing and does expand and contract as well as change and repairs itself.

i also agree that ariliners and oceanliners take most the blame if there is blame,, but as well we mention industry
