Well, I was finally able to get the car out of the garage and the weather to coorperate so I can work on getting the cage in the car. The knee is better, but it's still not the most comfortable thing to crawl around this jungle gym... :crazy: The main hoop and door bars I already had made from before, and the rear of the cage is what's being added and the whole lot will be welded in and painted body color. There's going to be the rear support bars (like in the pic), a lateral support between the rear shock towers and an "X" between the lot.....

Here is a shot of the engine bay as well....haven't had much time to fiddle with it, but I'm hoping to get the v-band welded on the DP this weekend so I can finish the turbo outlet.

Say... what are those red things on your strut towers?? Have you thought about thru-floor subframe connectors?
Is that a bobs log? Also are you gona remove all of that sound deadening material?
Nice use of zip ties on the radiator.
DarkThunder...not gonna need thru-floor SFCs with a cage tied into the existing SFC's and the rocker reinforcements ;) The red things are my old caster plates that dial is mucho pos caster.
CougarSE, yeah that's a center-mount Bob's log. The zip ties are holding the Rad up until I figure out where I put the rad brackets :p The car won't be driven that way ;) The sound-deadening will stay....it'll help keep the "booming" down to a minimum.....
A little more work today....ran out of welding gas doing motor mounts, so I had just enough to get a couple more things tacked in place...

C'mon Chuck, you know it's just for show and it belongs in Apperance... you can't make enough power to need a cage with a 4-cylinder ;)
I think that it is more for handling and body flex during hard cornering(which seems to be something that chuck dwells on.) But that is just me.
No, he's building this car for drag racing, and the cages is to get every ounce of power from the 4 cylinder to the rear tires, chassis flex kills power

I guess I meant to say what's your opinion on thru-floor subframe connectors. lol. I should be taking Welding classes this Winter Semester so I can finally weld me in a set.

They are stronger than the std variety SFC's, just a bit more of a pain to get installed. The 2" square tubing will better resist twisting loads than the stuff usually used, but again you have to pull the carpets and go to town on the floorboards to get them in.
