Title: Its apart again
Post by: SirChirpAlot on September 30, 2005, 02:52:43 PM
Well pulled topend of the motor apart again.
Checked rockers and bearings then checked roller lifters and still nothing wrong. Pulled heads off and still eveything looks good now signs of anything touching or rubbing.  Looks like i have to pull bottom end out fo the car and keep digging till i find what was knocking in there.

Had help from my son and buddy of mine that stoped by.

Well dont think i spun a bearing.
Knocking was a light knock that sounded like middle of motor.
I did pull one plug off at a time wile the motor was running to see if the knock would change.  If its a bad rod or wristpin when u do this the knock quiets down a bit.

I'm thinking maybe the thrust is gone or something to do with pickup.
Ether way knock is not a death knock its loud enuf u can hear it over the motor and a good 10 feet away

Walls look mint too.  rember i only have 1300Kms on this motor that what 700miles.

Might even be a bit of  got in the timing chain area and got smushed into the teath.  WIll post my findings when i find out what it is.

Is that a FRAM oil filter I see? It's kind of hard to tell.
I'd stay away from them. Heard of too many problems due to their poor design and filtering capabilities.

"Middle of the engine"? Could be a cam bearing, lobe or a mushy lifter

That's like saying you've pulled the trigger four times in Russian Roulette and haven't redecorated the wall yet.

Fram has gone SERIOUSLY downhill in quality since Allied-Signal bought them. Plenty of fresh horror stories out there. Unfortunately, I doubt they will ever improve their products until more people realize they've gone downhill and stop buying their filters. Until then, make mine Motorcraft. (made by Purolator) Might try a Wix filter one of these days, too. Used to use Fram filters, but I read enough about their drop in quality to where I won't use 'em again.

I've heard the same thing about Fram. The check vave thing is what bothers me about them - apparently they drain out when you shut the engine off, making it so when you restart you have to fill the filter before you see oil pressure.

I've heard Fram's are okay if you follow the 3000 mile interval strictly, but I still dont risk it.  T-bird I run a Motorcraft when I can get one, Super Tech when I can't.

Well its all apart again.

Get this i have found the banging around it was another piston with skirt broke off.  Also found 3 other pistons with cracks in the skirts.

Never seen this b4,  Checking bore and clearances to see if anything is not right.

Claude, my name's Brian.  I've also seen some good press for Wal-Mart "Super Tech" oil products.  I remember seeing a shift kit install in MM&FF or maybe it was some online mustang site.  At the end of the install they pictured a case of Super Tech tranny fluid.  I can recall hearing Eric (I think) say he knew someone that ran it in thier weekend drag car, too.

Yeah, my mechanic...he uses the Super Tech stuff in his 9-second Mustang's C4.

Well New set of pistons are being sent.
Block is going to get punched a bit more over and eveything will gte balanced again and hope to find out why the pistons have been failing.  The Whole set is being sent back to Speedpro and u can bet what i'm getting is not coming from them.

Cam crank rods block heads lifters rockers all look good no marks scuffs or anything that would make me worried about the other parts.
Plus with this motor tranny out for a week or so till motor is back i think i will swap the K member and look at something i been pondering trying for the rear susps.

More pics in next little wile.
