Post by: shame302 on September 29, 2005, 11:34:55 PM
might be a stupid question but...do sway bars wear oout or get "tired". also, my sports sway bars should be the same as a turbo coupes right?

I don't know about "wearing out" but they do break.

If by wear out, or get "tired", you mean the bar changes its equivalent spring rate...no. A poorly designed bar could "set" and begin to give your car a lateral preload. I've never heard of a Ford sway bar doing so.

I have a 87 TC and the front is 1 5/16 but the rear is 13/16"

I also have a rear one here for a 89 Mustang GT and it is 7/8" so maybe they changed it in 1988?

As a side note I took my front one off today because I was going to go to the track and it weigh 23 pounds.  Also removed the fog lights and those babies were 3 1/2 pounds each (total 7 pounds), you would not believe the bracket that Ford used to hold these on.

I would, because I took mine off last year since they weren't working right. Yeah, they definitely over-engineered those things. Kinda like the factory VAM bracket.
