I'll let you all in on a deal I've been working on for a while now :deal:
Some of you may have seen my thread on handcontrols for manual transmissions and the deal with TurboCoupe50 that fail through because the transport companies would take a car without a engine. I've been dropping hints for a while now but no one caught on.
I've found another car that I'm getting shipped up from Virginia. Anyway, here's some pictures.

The trouble lights on the dash are fixed now. A new master cylinder, and temp sending unit fixed it.
So what do you think?
so, you need to drive with handcontrols? sorry, i never picked up on that, must have missed that tread.. nice looking car. keep us posted on how it goes.
That must be in Tom's yard, is it? I see an Aerostar, a Lightning and a million Thunderbirds...
Nice find :D I'll trade you for a low mileage, rust free '88 5.0 'Bird :deal:
I don't think so Tim! :)
Yes, it's Toms yard. When I found out the transport company wouldn't take the car Tom was selling without an engine, Tom offered to sell me another. He even offered to drive it up here for me, sort of a cheap vacation, but that fell through.
I need to take some more pictures... It's been cleaned up a bit since those were taken. Also the CEL and brake warning lamps are no longer glaring away, since it now has another ABS unit and temp sensor installed.
nm my early post, i just looked at the pics thread.. hehe.. i have never been one to be known as quick on the up take.
hey, you can drive a car to me!!! i'll even take it for free :P
Thats one nice looking bird.
Sweet, what's it costing ya to ship it up east??
Haha, Ive actually driven that car years ago when I saw it around the corner from my house in Va. Thats ironic that Tom ended up with it. Its a nice car, looks exactly like my old one.
:( I see my old Lightning as well...I miss that truck.
The cost for shipping is more than I'm paying for the car. A little over $2000 CND taxes in. But the thing is I can't get a car in that shape here so I guess I'll have to pay
Holy *$&@!! You could buy a trailer and tow it yourself for that price. When I asked how much it would be to ship my car from Va to Ga, they wanted $1100, I said hell no I could put that toward a trailer for $1500.
Believe it or not, that's about the cheapest way to get it here. Between myself and Tom, we exhausted all other alternatives. Flying down and driving it back, driving down and towing it back, driving it here and flying back.
Tom just send me a new picture
(http://205.251.38.200:8080/images/TC/P4240163.JPG)
If you want to browse all the pictures they are here (http://"http://205.251.38.200:8080/thunderbird/frameset.htm")
Very purty :D
So you gonna part out the Sport? The first thing I'd do if I were you is install your 200km/hr cluster into that TC
Y'all should then send me those wheels :D
I've already thought about the cluster.
What rims do you want? The Riken's or the Snowflakes?
The riken's are 15". They could use a Thunder Chicken restore! I would sell them if you're interested. I'm thinking about taking a trip up that way next summer - I could bring them with me. My brother-in-law is buying a house in your 'hood and we haven't seen our new neice yet.
The rikens. Those are actually the rims that were on my car before I bought it - the guy took 'em off and sold 'em to a friend of his with a Mustang:
That's too bad. They look in better shape than mine. Mine could use a good cleaning at the very least. The guy, who by the way owns a car care company, :( had weights on the outside of the rim. You can see the damage in the first picture.

Make me an offer!
Tom send me some more pictures last night
Since this Bird had not been flying for approx two years, the wife and took it on a Sunday outing to limber her up a bit. The pix at the lighthouse was taken at Bodie Island, just south of Nags Head NC(about 90 mi from home).
If anyone is interested check out the link for more info...
http://www.lighthouseratings.com/Bodie/
The other two pictures were taken at the Grave Diggers Monster Truck shop in Grandy NC.(you could probably figure that one out)
man, i'll say it agian, it is a nice looking bird.
well im goin to seattle very soon to pick up a tc for myself as well. for it to be shipped back to ny it was 1800 :flame: but insted 500 to go get it and drive it back and that does include getting tune up parts and a new battery.
Does that include airfare, food, hotels, the possibility of breakdowns, gas, and FERRY FEES? Sure it would have been a little cheeper to drive providing we didn't run into any problems and airfare for one person. We had some other issues too.
But with that said, Tom is reconsidering driving it up for me. We'll know what way we're going by Thursday.
wow, neet..those wheels look a lot like the ones i just sold but they were a different brand. huh. they look awesome on a tbird....
clickie (http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=4652)
Yeah! I noticed the similarity of those wheels to mine a while back. The center black peice looks like it's just stuck on there with some glue. They were probably made by the same company. You could easily remove the black center from the back, without damaging the cap, and put something more custom looking there...like a cougar emblem ;)
UPDATE: Turbocoupe50 has the check, the transport company has the required information and the pickup date is set for Oct 17. I CAN'T WAIT!
I'm gonna hijack the truck on the 104. When you get the car it will be sans rear end, hood, header panel, rims and interior. But you can laways use the parts off your old Sport to put it back together, right? :D
Well I can't let that happen.... I goin out there right now with some camouflage pant....
I know Paul will thank me.... :hick: :hick:
Tom, hold off on the paint job. Looks like you're out of luck there ThunderChicken! The car won't be on the 104. It's going to Montreal from VA and from ther to St. John's on boat. :rollin:
But the hood and driver side is already done... Whadda I do now??
:rollin::rollin::rollin:
Oh well! C'est le vie
I'll barricade the Saint Lawrence! I must have that car!!!
And that's why I kept quite about this car until the check was in the mail. I figured when you found out about it you would want it. :)
Man nice ride but have you guys been checking the internet for those prices on shipping a car? Or checking with local companies through the phone book or something. I ask because I bought my 87 from a guy just outside Kansas City. It costed me just under $550 to have them pick it up and ship to Toledo, OH. Took 10 days, I put 100 down and paid the rest when the driver showed up...You can pay the whole thing up front but I hate how companies tend to take there sweet ass time when you pay them in full for a job, everything went pretty smoothly too.
:ies::tg:This one's for you, Carm :flip:
:)
More
... that Turbo Coupe looks strangely familiar....
Now where have it seen it??? :dunno:
It's probably the last time you see it, unless you come for a visit.
Tom, I just want to publicly say thanks for all your patience during this (or)deal. I think it deserves a bump in your reputation. :)

Nice! You do realize, Paul, that if I ever decide to import a car I'll be harrassing the hell out of you for information :D
Not a problem! On a side note - I think I tracked down that TC that I missed out on by 30 minutes last year. Are you still interested in any parts from it?
Um, what's going on with the compressed suspension on the front end, and rear possibly?
That's pretty natural for a car on a hauler. They tighten those things down good so they don't move around or worse, fall off.
Yeah, I noticed that too. Tom would be the one to ask that but I think it's done to make the load on the truck more stable. i.e. the load rides on the truck's suspension not the car's.
AWWW Shucks, tweren't nutin' ... Thanks for the kind words...
You've been great buyer as well, was a pleasure.
I hope to see it again one of these days, keepin' a trip up your way on the possibility list. When its 95*+ here in July/August the temps up your way would be a welcome change.
You know the welcome mat is out!
Yea he really pulled on the chains that hold it down, now you know how it would look lowered..
I can't believe I misssed this pic. probable the best out of the bunch
Yes. I forget which parts I'm interested in, but I'm likely interested in something :D
Looks like it was tied down in some of the pics, and not in others.
My guess would be from the tie-downs to keep it stuck to the trailer :D
(Doh, Bird351 beat me to it!)
Looking good, man.
There wouldn't be a drivers side tail light in there somewhere?
or mint doors?
I've found it. The guy has 2 87 TCs one black one that he blew the motor in and the white one.
He said he's looking for a 305HO to put in the black one, maybe he meant 302HO, I'm not sure.
He's willing to part out the white one so I'll check on the DS taillight, and the door emblems, etc. I asked if I could drop by this weekend to have a look. I haven't heard back yet.
Shame302, I think you're out of luck on the doors though. If I remember correctly they were pretty bad when i looked at it last year.
Anyone have any other parts they are interested in. Just remember RUST.
Hey, if Chevy can make a 302, why can't he get himself a 305 Ford? :hick:
Awesome. Tail lights don't RUST!
Easy enough .020 overbore will do it...
I might be interested in the header panel and hood off the white one - since my car's white it would make it that much easier ;)
You obviously have never had one of those nuts seize onto the stud, or had the stud rust and split the post on the tail lights :flip:
Paul, both of the Turbo Coupe door emblems are in the glovebox...
Cool! Thanks Tom, I guess that one thing I won't have to worry about :) All I have to worry about now is to hook up the handcontrols to the clutch. I'll tackle that as soon as the bird get here.:sawzall::welder:
UPDATE:
I might be dropping by to see the white car this weekend. I gave him a link to this sight. Hopefully, he'll sign up so you guys can deal with him directly...
I got the call from the transport company and the car is in town. I have to get her through customs tomorrow.
Wow, what a pain to move a car over an imaginary line put into place by two governments! Almost a month and still gotta go thriugh customs....How much of a problem is that gonna be?
At the dock yard...
Customs guy making sure it's the right car...
Customs wasn't a bad experience at all... only cost me something like $80 for the GST. I got the car inspected today and everything is a go for registration tomorrow. Then I'll have to pay $180 to register and the 7% PST (and any outstanding fines). I'm not sure if I'll have to pay a transfer fee of $30 or not!!!
Out with the old ...
...and in with the new.
At last the saga of the transplanted TC comes to a end... Glad to see it got there OK. Hope it gives you you get a lot of enjoyment.
BTW.. Paul it has been absoutly great to work with you, and I feel you also are more than worthy of a bump in Rep Power... (when I figure out how to do it)...
got that garage up just in time!!
let us know how it goes with the controls instalation. I have never seen hand controls for a manual.
I guess I'll let this thread die now.
I'll post updates on the handcontrols in this thread (http://"http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=3483&highlight=handcontrols")
I think it's time for an update now.
