Title: Since the check is in the mail
Post by: thundergrowl on September 23, 2005, 10:10:58 PM
I'll let you all in on a deal I've been working on for a while now :deal:

Some of you may have seen my thread on handcontrols for manual transmissions and the deal with TurboCoupe50 that fail through because the transport companies would take a car without a engine. I've been dropping hints for a while now but no one caught on.

I've found another car that I'm getting shipped up from Virginia. Anyway, here's some pictures.

The trouble lights on the dash are fixed now. A new master cylinder, and temp sending unit fixed it.

So what do you think?

That must be in Tom's yard, is it? I see an Aerostar, a Lightning and a million Thunderbirds...

Nice find :D I'll trade you for a low mileage, rust free '88 5.0 'Bird :deal:

I don't think so Tim! :)

Yes, it's Toms yard. When I found out the transport company wouldn't take the car Tom was selling without an engine, Tom offered to sell me another. He even offered to drive it up here for me, sort of a cheap vacation, but that fell through.

I need to take some more pictures... It's been cleaned up a bit since those were taken. Also the CEL and brake warning lamps are no longer glaring away, since it now has another ABS unit and temp sensor installed.

Haha, Ive actually driven that car years ago when I saw it around the corner from my house in Va. Thats ironic that Tom ended up with it. Its a nice car, looks exactly like my old one.

:(  I see my old Lightning as well...I miss that truck.

The cost for shipping is more than I'm paying for the car. A little over $2000 CND taxes in. But the thing is I can't get a car in that shape here so I guess I'll have to pay

Holy *$&@!! You could buy a trailer and tow it yourself for that price. When I asked how much it would be to ship my car from Va to Ga, they wanted $1100, I said hell no I could put that toward a trailer for $1500.

Believe it or not, that's about the cheapest way to get it here. Between myself and Tom, we exhausted all other alternatives. Flying down and driving it back, driving down and towing it back, driving it here and flying back.

Very purty :D

So you gonna part out the Sport? The first thing I'd do if I were you is install your 200km/hr cluster into that TC

Y'all should then send me those wheels :D

I've already thought about the cluster.

What rims do you want? The Riken's or the Snowflakes?

The riken's are 15". They could use a Thunder Chicken restore! I would sell them if you're interested. I'm thinking about taking a trip up that way next summer - I could bring them with me. My brother-in-law is buying a house in your 'hood and we haven't seen our new neice yet.
Title: Re: Since the check is in the mail

The rikens. Those are actually the rims that were on my car before I bought it - the guy took 'em off and sold 'em to a friend of his with a Mustang:
Title: Re: Since the check is in the mail
Post by: thundergrowl on September 25, 2005, 03:32:22 PM
That's too bad. They look in better shape than mine. Mine could use a good cleaning at the very least. The guy, who by the way owns a car care company, :( had weights on the outside of the rim. You can see the damage in the first picture.

Since this Bird had not been flying for approx two years, the wife and took it on a Sunday outing to limber her up a bit. The pix at the lighthouse was taken at Bodie Island, just south of Nags Head NC(about 90 mi from home).

If anyone is interested check out the link for more info...
http://www.lighthouseratings.com/Bodie/

The other two pictures were taken at the Grave Diggers Monster Truck shop in Grandy NC.(you could probably figure that one out)

well im goin to seattle very soon to pick up a tc for myself as well. for it to be shipped back to ny it was 1800 :flame:  but insted 500 to go get it and drive it back and that does include getting tune up parts and a new battery.
Title: Re: Since the check is in the mail
Post by: thundergrowl on September 26, 2005, 12:32:39 PM
Does that include airfare, food, hotels, the possibility of breakdowns, gas, and FERRY FEES? Sure it would have been a little cheeper to drive providing we didn't run into any problems and airfare for one person. We had some other issues too.

But with that said, Tom is reconsidering driving it up for me. We'll know what way we're going by Thursday.

Yeah! I noticed the similarity of those wheels to mine a while back. The center black peice looks like it's just stuck on there with some glue. They were probably made by the same company. You could easily remove the black center from the back, without damaging the cap, and put something more custom looking there...like a cougar emblem ;)

I'm gonna hijack the truck on the 104. When you get the car it will be sans rear end, hood, header panel, rims and interior. But you can laways use the parts off your old Sport to put it back together, right? :D

Man nice ride but have you guys been checking the internet for those prices on shipping a car? Or checking with local companies through the phone book or something. I ask because I bought my 87 from a guy just outside Kansas City. It costed me just under $550 to have them pick it up and ship to Toledo, OH. Took 10 days, I put 100 down and paid the rest when the driver showed up...You can pay the whole thing up front but I hate how companies tend to take there sweet ass time when you pay them in full for a job, everything went pretty smoothly too.

That's pretty natural for a car on a hauler. They tighten those things down good so they don't move around or worse, fall off.

Post by: thundergrowl on October 25, 2005, 06:38:18 PM
Yeah, I noticed that too. Tom would be the one to ask that but I think it's done to make the load on the truck more stable. i.e. the load rides on the truck's suspension not the car's.

I've found it. The guy has 2 87 TCs one black one that he blew the motor in and the white one.

He said he's looking for a 305HO to put in the black one, maybe he meant 302HO, I'm not sure.

He's willing to part out the white one so I'll check on the DS taillight, and the door emblems, etc. I asked if I could drop by this weekend to have a look. I haven't heard back yet.

Shame302, I think you're out of luck on the doors though. If I remember correctly they were pretty bad when i looked at it last year.

Anyone have any other parts they are interested in. Just remember RUST.

Customs wasn't a bad experience at all... only cost me something like $80 for the GST. I got the car inspected today and everything is a go for registration tomorrow. Then I'll have to pay $180 to register and the 7% PST (and any outstanding fines). I'm not sure if I'll have to pay a transfer fee of $30 or not!!!

Out with the old ...
