Title: aluminium plate
Post by: thunderjet302 on September 20, 2005, 05:33:16 PM
Hey does anyone know where I can get some aluminium plate? I'm trying to make a new custom  intake cover for my Bird and I need some aluminium plate to cut to fit for the intake cover on the 5.0 intake. Incase you're wondering what I have in mind it's going to say 5.0 Thunderjet with a Tbird logo under it. So if anyone knows where I can get some aluminium plate let me know. Thanks.

Probably could get one at Home Depot or Lowe's.
You'd have to cut it but they should have some aluminum sheets.

The stuff at lowe's & home depot probably wouldn't be thick enough for that.

http://www.mcmaster.com sells aluminum sheet in a bunch of different sizes.

I got some 1/4 inch aluminum at the local metal recyclers for simply the sost of aluminum per pound.Check yours out.All different sizes, and thickness.I got about 5 feet by 2 feet for around $8.00.I pplan on making an intake plate also.It would be very easy.I'm also going to polish my Explorer intake to match.

Has anyone modified the round style air cleaner/intake on an 83 or 84. I think thats the years. I thought of cutting one so that it had stainless intake tubes, one off to each side. Its hard to explain. Ill get some pics made for ya.

Well I tried Home Depot and I couldn't find it in the width I needed. I know that the aluminium has to be 1/8" thick. I'll try my local metal recycler. Hopefully they'll have what I need. Thanks guys.

You mean like an LTD LX (and probably others)?
