Title: no charging from alternator after swap!!!
Post by: SLEEPER T-BIRD 87 on September 11, 2005, 12:15:33 AM
well finnally got some alternator brackets for the 429 and put back on the 87 model alternator . all wired up like factory (factory harness extended 3 inches) now no charging from it.

it is in known good condition as i removed it from my daily driver

does the alternator harness go thru the engine computer?? maybe ?

i traced everything and have good connections.

i have a 1 wire chevy style alternator i am going to install in the am if no one has any ideas?  :D

If it's the new style alt that goes in the 88turbo coupe,[not the one made by mishib.] you can buy an internal regulator for it that will turn it into a one wire system.....cost about $25...

yeah it is the same style used on 5.0 mustangs.
i didn't know if maybe the engine computer switched it on somehow'? or maybe the harnesses intersected somewere and maybe i disconnected something under the dash

i have a good 65 amp chevy one wire that i had on another turbo coupe that had wiring problems i may just swap it on since i already have it and it is a bolt on swap :D

The EEC has no bearing on the alt... You have a wiring problem or a bad alt.
