well, maybe 2 weeks ago, i decided it would be a good idea to sell the dodge, seeing as there is virtually no parts interchange with the bird, and i decided id love to get a TC, i did probably a few days of looking around, and saw that they were going for way too much and wernt in the shape i was looking for
well, a friend of mine caught wind of this, during the summer, he and i went to look at an 87 TC, gray with a red leather interior, ran decent, 5-speed, had all options but keyless and moonroof, little better shape than my bird, big issues were tires, exhaust banged around, and it has a surging problem, the guy wanted 1000, but would go down to 800, my friend offered 500 and the guy said no, few weeks later, the guy called him back and said he'd take 500, but my friend didnt have the money
fast forward a few months, im working, i want a turbo coupe, and the car is still sitting for sale, my friend is going to call him today and see if he'd still be willing to let it go for 500, and if so, i may drop a 200 dollar down payment after i talk to my dad for it
if/when i get the car, the dodge is going up for sale
hopefully i can get it
'Bout time you got rid of that thing. ;)
id like to keep it, but having 3 cars is over my limit
Sucker... I'm jealous. I always wanted (still do) a fix-er-up 87-88 TC.
same, but fixing up/modifying my current car will have to do. I just juggle selling mine and getting a tc, then dropping a v8 in, or sticking with mine and adding tc parts, one by one. I'm not one to have a bunch of cars laying around :p One more car, under warranty, and I'm set. Have to at least have one running all the time to get to work and back.
well, my dad *implied* that he'd lend me the money to go get the car as long as i pay him back, so now its an issue of getting ahold of the owner and hoping he's willing to let it go
id absolutly love to have it home this evening
uh... as a warning, the rings like to go. Both my 87 and 85 have fallen victim to this.
Rebuild on the 87 motor to stick in the 85 coming soon... VERY soon
Actually the 2.3Ts are tough as hell. The bottom ends can go 175K-200k "usually" before needing a rebuild. Even at that, there is usually negligible wear in the cylinders. It is very typical to only have to hone the cylinders and re-ring and go on the pistons.
Valve stem seals are a primary culprit to oil useage/burning. I usually replace them as a matter of course on any used engine I'm swapping, even if it's not getting rebuilt. Most of the time they disintegrate as I'm removing them.
Anyway Shawn...buy the car :slap: I think I know someone who you can talk 2.3T's with. :hick:
I didn't say don't buy it, I love my turbo 2.3's just seem to be having bad luck with them (118k 5 speed 87 and 79k auto 85) Just giving my experience
Hell, those are babies. That is like no mileage at all. Are you SURE it's the rings on the 85?
Sorry for the hijack
If you only saw the mess in this engine, you'd understand... I'll take some pics when I'm pulling it all apart
im definatly getting it, i was going to get it last night, but when we went to go meet the seller, he had to go do something, so we couldnt get ahold of him, hopefully ill have better chances tonight
good luck!
Pics! Pics!
Last time I talked to shawn he was unsure about that seller, but he was in talks about buying the one that Tom has for sale in the FS section.
yeah, for some reason, the seller seemed to drop off of the face of the earth, but last night he called my friends house (who has been the one calling and whatnot) and he wasnt home, my friends mom called my friend and told him a guy called and said something about a thunderbird, his mom doesnt speak english, so thats all she got out of it, but it was the guy, so today my friend is calling back and will see whats going on
if i dont get this one, im going to buy Toms, im really wanting a TC now
