Title: protect mode.
Post by: CougarCoupe88 on September 06, 2005, 01:03:39 AM
ok i think i may have an idea of the problem but i think i'll see what everyone else thinks.

i bridged my subs and hooked everything up. start adjusting evrything. stop for a second to listen and the subs cut off with it cranking. so i check the breaker. not poped. so i turn the radio off and back on it works. so i turned the gain down a bit and tryed that still poped. but if i dont crank it up to my normal 35 volume and keep it to say 30-32 it's good . so i think it may be that i need a conector for the 8ga wire on the amp. or i have to check the 4ga. crimps. and add soder. i think it's starving for power and turning them off.    or it's the gage speaker wire. maybe i should try bigger?

by the way. 4ga from the batt. to a distobution block split to 8gage.  and same as ground. 2 8 gage. to a block and a 4 gage ground.

whatch ya think ??.

What type of subs and amp are you running?

Sounds like it's starving for voltage to me. I'd suggest a capacitor. A big capacitor. It would be able to supply a boost during peak demand.

Before buying a bigger alt, your best bet may be to upgrade the stock wiring under the hood if it is actually shutting off due to voltage drops.  This explains it better than I could...

I have yet to do that to my car, but I do plan on it.

I'm still curious though what amps and subs you are running and how many watts you are pulling.  If it were voltage drops that was causing it I figured you'd have mentioned your lights were dimming as well.

ok well i have 2 pioneer 10's with a 1000 watt amp (legacy) for the subs only briged to one channel. . the car does have a 130 alt. so thats allready done.  i was also thinking a cap. .  i also belive the ground is the culprit. bc it was kind of loose. so im gonna run a bigger bolt to tighten that up.  i have never had this many problems with one car. but so far all can be fixed and corrected.

i think im gonna run an extra ground wire from the batt. to sway bar mounts and to the block. to make sure if any grounds are old/broken and just age  the car will have new grounds.
