Title: Explorer owners - Beware
Post by: cougarcragar on August 31, 2005, 05:01:32 AM
To those who own, or know someone who owns, an Exploder, think twice before you try to change the tranny fluid.
My Dad has a '99 with the 4.0l and 4x4. I changed it tonight for him and it took three hours.
I have never had such a bad experience underneath a car, and I've spent a lot of time underneath cars.
Everything from the pan removal to the catalytic converter heat shield was an incredibly frustrating ordeal.
Ford surely does not engineer parts of their vehicles to be easily worked on by the home mechanic... hell, even a professional should know what I'm talking about.
Furthermore, I rarely create threads like these, so you know it must be bad.

That is all. :)

I have a 99 Ranger with the 5 speed automatic. I changed the fluid and filter myself and never had any problems. If I remember correctly there was just one bold that was just a little bit difficult to get at to remove but really no big problem.

The 99 ranger 4.0L 4x4 should be the same as the Explorer, shouldn't it?
