ive obtained the impossible! 146 miles on the highway using a lil over 4 gallons of gas crusing at 78 mph. eat that imports!
i used to get high 20's in my 84 on the highway, the instant I hit the city though it dropped into the teens.
That's pretty close to what I achieved about a month ago:

the mustang i ripped apart for my turbo swap, i was getting 21 mpg city, and 32 HWY
u guys just burst my bubble lol :toilet:
ive never got that high of gas mileage
I used to get 33 mpg with my '81 Olds station wagon... 'course it was a diesel....
Must be nice, before I parked the cougar a week ago (after only having it running for a lil over a week) the best I averaged was low 20's.
I got 26 in my '88 'Bird at about 80mph.302 H.O,Explorer intake, 60mm throttlebody.I could probably get a little better if I set the cruise control at about 75mph and let it go.I was very pleased. The 302 I had in it before got about 15 mpg on the highway.
In 1993, with my stock non-HO 5.0 and the factory open 2.73 gears, I got an actual observed 28 mpg going from Youngstown to Dayton (roughly 250 miles one way). Coming home I got an astounding 32 mpg.
Oh yeah...this was with 135K miles on the ticker. ;)
The best I ever did was 30 mpg once when coming home from college once with my '88 5.0. Of course everything was at an optimum for getting good mileage. Ambient temp was perfect, tire pressures perfect, car in good tune, etc etc. It usually averaged in the low 20's even with 150,000+ miles. Which is still pretty good if you ask me. I'm afraid to check it now that I have 3.73's in it.
Best I ever got was 24 heading to and from Cat Jam last year. That was with everything I have now minus the headers, h-pipe and cobra intake. The car really wasn't in that great of tune, was filled with 4 adults and the trunk was so stuffed it would barely close. This was still better than the 22 mpg that I got with the original 190,000 mile S.O. motor.
I usually get between 18 and 21 just driving around now hence the new 4-bang foreign job that gets 30 or more consistantly on regular as opposed to premium.
