Title: Digital Dash speedo Q's
Post by: Sick88Tbird on August 22, 2005, 10:25:23 AM
Just wanted to see if anyone knew how to modify the digital speedo to read past 85 or if anybody knows of a company that can do it.

Also, I'm putting 3.55 gears in my car soon, will the speedomoter drive gears for a mustang work on these cars?  Just curious...my speedo hasn't read the right speeds in almost a year after going to the 'stang 8.8 with 3.08's.

Thanks,
Don

Here are the shorter instructions if you do not want to wade through the process.

The hard part is going to be keeping her under 86mph...  :rollin:  something about seeing the speedo go over 85 that never gets old

LOL, yeah, the A.C. Expressway is my backyard so...not a problem...I've had it in excess of 145 on the expressway before....never...ever...again.  That was a white knuckle ride alright.  I'll just be happy to see it read higher than 85.

If you ever see me say something like that again, smack me please.  Yeah, let me tell you how easy that was.  Nothing on my dash wanted to come apart, then when it did, it didn't want to go back together the same way.  BUT, it worked quite nicely so I guess that's all that matters.

That's the main reason I haven't done this mod yet.  I pulled the dask to check for loose connections a few years ago and it was a real pain.  I just have been too lazy to do it again for this.

It's not that hard once you do it one time and you learn where all the screws are and how everything comes apart.  It's a bit more of a pain if you have a column shifter though.

My car was a column shift car...I had to use a floor shifter when I did the HO conversion for exhaust clearance.  Although the column shifter still resides on the column...lol.  It also allowed me to cut the cable for the gear indicator on the dash.  Everything was ready to come out but that was holding it in enough for me to not be able to know exactly what it was until I cut it.

is there a differance between an 84 digital dash and an 85? i had to drive next to a focus and wait til his computer shut him down at 112 to know how fast i was going. i would love to see my speedo go over 85. sumtimes i switch it to kilometers just to see it happen!

I'm not sure anyone has tried on an earlier dash.  You could pull the dash and see if the layout is similar and post some pictures.

Yeah so far we figured out how to do it to everything else. I think that the 83-84 just arent as avalible as they used to be. The 85 up to 88 are the exact same. There were also way more 85 to 88 cougar/tbirds.
