What now?? Prices are $2.72+ per gallon of 87 octane here. Funny thing, it's $2.73 near my house, and $2.47 just 35 miles away by work. They are expecting about $3.00 by Labor Day. Bush must be getting ready to ask for another loan for the war...
How much are the rest of you paying?
$2.75
$3.56
(112.9 cents/liter, 3.8 liters to the US gallon, 83 US cents to the Canadian dollar)
106.7 Cents/Liter
or
$3.37/US Gal
It is $2.59 here now. I filled up yesterday for $32.00 but I already had about 10 gallons in the car when I started!
2.81 (premium)
I think it was like $2.59 for the 89 octane I filled up on last.. but that was Saturday.. could've gone up again (and probably did) since then.
Gettin' to be about time for a propane (dual-fuel.. wouldn't give up gasoline) conversion. :D Found a UK company selling conversion kits for 5.0s.. but they're apparently for UK F150 5.0s.. not sure how much adaptation it would take. Also found toroidal (donut-shaped) propane tanks with a gross capacity of 95 liters. (around 25 gallons, I think) Unfortunately with the 80% fill thing on propane tanks, it comes out to only around 20 gallons.
I'd have posted a thread about it (dual-fuel conversions) by now, but it's something I doubted many here would have interest in. But who knows, as gas prices head for the $3/gal. mark and beyond..
2.59 here yesterday havent checked today. has anyone used E85? 85% ethanol %15 gasoline would this hurt our cars to run straight? supposed to be around $1 a gallon
I think the ethanol is corrosive to parts of the fuel system if they were not originally designed for use w/ it. Just what I recall reading whenever the topic of alt. fuels comes up. If it's in error, I'm sure someone else who knows better will set things straight on the topic.
2.55 for regular
I would gladly pay a bit more for gas if I could GO TO THE DOCTOR for free. At least you canucks got something right.

I agree on that one... Since I retired, I'm paying $775 a month for health insurance for the wife and myself. Even at $3.56 a gallon that would buy a lot of gas...
2.97 for 93 here.... The cougar has been driven only 25-30 miles since CJ... She now has 2 gallons in the tank and the saab is getting all the road action in the past month.
29 mpg or 12 mpg ...... hmmm..
87 octane or 93 ..... hmmm...
I think I'm going to let the cougar get some more sleep.
If it were only the gas it'd be OK. Try paying 35% income tax. And that's the lower end of the tax bracket. Add 15% sales tax onto everything you buy (including gas and oil). $11 for a pack of smokes (thankfully I don't). $17 for a dozen beer. $25 for a quart of rum (again, I don't). 2.5% property tax (on a $100k house that's $2500 every year). Our health care system may be many things, but one thing it isn't is free.
I dunno if you guys have been paying attention to the state of the Canadian health system, but it's been falling apart. Waiting times are in the several year range for things like hip replacements or knee surgery, and even things that should be done ASAP, like MRI's and CAT scans, have waiting lists of several months. When I was in a car accident I was ordered off work until I could see a neurologist. The accident was in January 1998, the appointment was for October 1998. Free health care ain't much good if you're already terminal by the time they get around to diagnosing you...
Our emergency rooms are a mess as well, with people waiting several hours in the waiting room with a broken leg or the like. This is a side effect of "free" health care - every mother that has a kid with a runny nose rushes him to emergency. If they had to pay for that service you can bet they wouldn't...
Now there's talk of a two-tier system, where those that can afford to pay can go to private hospitals. Most Canadians are against this, but as I see it, if somebody can afford to go to a private clinic that takes them off the waiting list for the rest of us, and everybody gets bumped ahead one spot in line for each person that goes private. The only problem I can see is that politicians will likely take more money out of the public system as demand eases a bit.
Don't get me wrong - I do sleep better at night knowing that I'll never be driven to bankruptcy by a medical emergency. I do like our health care system, but it's in need of serious repair. And it ain't free.
Nothing's free, just distributed elsewhere. Our Governor suspended gas taxes for awhile when prices first started soaring a year or so ago, but our property tax brackets were raised, and county tax added at about the same time. I live in Indiana, work in Kentucky, and pay taxes to both states, two different counties, a city tax to Louisville, city tax to Indiana, and to beat all, I have to pay a Tarc tax for the buses that run through the city. I've never been on one, but pay weekly for those that do ride.
I just realized I should have started this thread in the lounge...sorry.
Most everything you listed there seems pretty standard with the exception of the smokes. I dont' know much about property tax, I don't own any. 15% tax on everything is kind of high, but at the rate we're headed, I'm sure it won't be long before that happens here. They keep upping the "local option" salses taxes. Most times it will double the tax. And being on a list for surgery is better than never getting the surgery because you'd rather endure pain and be able to eat for a year.
Well when I get my water bill I get hit for the guys that pic up the garbage, the water that comes into my house, and sewage. I pay for both the water entering my house and leaving my house.
My house is valued at $30,000 I pay $650 a year in property tax. Sales tax is around 8%. And I wonder why I have no money. I also pay for the busses to run through the city but would never ride on one becasue of what does ride on our busses. We pay a 5% tax on gas for road matinence. I would hate to see our road if we didn't pay that they ar bad enough as is.
We also have an entertainment tax. You pay tax on top of tax for say like going to a movie.
D@mn money grubbing politicians.
Bush better not ask for another dime. If gashiznits three bucks a gallon by Labor Day there's going to be civil unrest in the U.S.
I'm not driving too much these days but I saw a sign for two seventy something yesterday.
INSANE!
All the comments make me proud of my country and his terrible economy, but in general we have free medical atenttion and the gas prices of the 87 costs .60 cents per liter (USD) and 93 around .70 cents per liter. But well, we have too much drawbacks at our governement, and if we want a used car, that there in USA costs, mmm, 900 bucks, here it will costs 2300 USD, and wont had a radio and A/C......the car payments are at the Sky....
Its simple, what do you prefer, cheaper and better cars, of cheaper fuel and expensive cars ?

I'm going to move to australia. Then I will finaly be able to buy a Commodore.
People can whine and bitch all they want, but the fact is, none of them will quit driving, they'll just tighten the belt and keep paying out the ass for gasoline. I had an older woman come into the gas station and ask me, accusingly, how her, and other old folks like her are supposed to survive, "ride bycicles?" she asked. I couldn't respond with anything becuase, guess what, it's not me, it's not my manager, business owner, oil company nor anything. This shiznit is happening all over the world. As much as I'd like to be able to blame our president for this (it's an easy scapegoat for an angry trucker who just got $90 in fuel) it clearly isn't much of an isolated crisis.

I'm moving to Venezuela :tg:
Trust me dude. You would much rather pay for gas here than live in Venezuela. My wife is from South America. It sucks down there.
Venezuela Isn“t a big deal Now........
Move To Egypt !
ever heard of sarcasm?? I'd never move south of the Can/US border - let alone to SA :canada:
prices are actually down today from $2.59 to $2.52
Prices finally dropped a dime from $2.69 to $2.59 and next week its supposed to be $3.00 here. Wow thats great considering i dont have a car to drive. Why does my car have to do this to me.
Today it is $2.48 in branson MO. Anyone try the acetone in the gas trick yet? I've read that is it supposed to help fuel mileage. Thinkin about runnin it in my 84 T/C Would it be bad or good?
Wouldn't it be similar to running alcohol, basically raising octane? And chances are you'd pay just as much for acetone per gallon as gas. Unless you don't need a whole lot. This sounds reasonable, I'll google it.
Google search - "acetone in gas tank"
http://www.pureenergysystems.com/news/2005/03/17/6900069_Acetone/
http://peswiki.com/index.php/Directory:Acetone:Data:hello_world
88 Thunderbird test subject, 18% increase in mileage. Seems I may have to try this out! That would be about 3-4 mpg each tank full. Another 60 miles between fill-ups.
Hmm at autozone we sell acetone. I don't know if it is 100 % though. Today at work I will buy a bottle if it is pure.
I got some dupli color acetone. It says 100% acetone. I'm gonna put some in my 1984 2.3turbo coupe today when I get gas. I was reading then info and I think I headin for the low side of it I'm going with 2oz/10gal. I hope its cool. I do know a guy that has been putting it in his mercedes for about 2mo now and he loves it. I'll let you know what I get on this next 10/gal of gas with my 4bagger turbo. sorry only have 20 buck for gas so I guess i'll only be getting about 8gals suck!
The other day my digital dash told me I had 3 gallons left (believe it or not the gas guage is extremely accurate). I swiped my debit card through the readout on the gas pump, picked up the nozzle and pumped away. Upon hitting $50 it shut off (my card is limited to $50 at gas stations for security purposes). I coulda put 4 more galllons in the car
Paul, I think if you ran the card again, you might've been able to fill all the way up, at least I see people do that at my gas station sometimes. PS - Is that using premium?
I knew it was getting bad when the other day a guy comes in with a chevelle all tubbed out, carbs and blower sticking out of the hood, and he only put mid-grade in the car.
well guys it just hit 3.10 a gal here in st louis,mo and it's sunday     !!! at least they waited till after most church services,it was2.83 a gal here this mourning.
I could have run the card again, it shuts off after $50 PER USE at a gas station. I just got disgusted and refused to do it though...... Sorry, should have been more specific. Oh yeah, it was premium $2.91 per gallon.
low grade is actually down to 2.29
I filled up the truck for $29 last night. :D Propane hasn't gone up a fraction of a cent. It's still 48.4c/L (gas is 102.9c/L).
I think gas is cheap in Venezuela because for one it's a poor country, and for another they have their own oil down there! I know we import a little from them, but not very much.
Also I got gas the other night....93 was 2.79 a gallon I think, I paid $45 for 16 gallons of gas. That really hurts...
On the bright side, my car averaged 26.7 mpg on the last tank.
OOOH! They came down a bit today! Instead of 112.9 cents it's now 111.9! A whole penny! I save about 80 cents on a fill up now!
My little gas guzzler new "2005 F250 V8 and her big stomach 38gal tank" need to fill her up about $130.00 , this is hurting my wallet :america:
Just hit $2.81 for regular here in Wisconsin, maybe it's a good thing the cougar's parked and I'm driving my Jeep now.
Gas price went up 8.9 cents/L this past Monday. It's now at 115.6 Cents/L
I don't know what kind of Jeep you're driving, but if it's anything like the two Cherokees I owned you're better off with the Cougar. The 4-cyl one was the worst at about 10MPG (the engine had to work so hard just to maintain 60MPH), and the 6 cyl one got about 20. The T-Bird gets about 28-30 on the highway, and I've even averaged 33.4 MPG on one 60-mile trip
I have an '88 comanche with the 2.5L with about 170,000 miles on it and maybe I'm just getting lucky, but I usually get about 25-30 mpg with it. Does it really matter if it's a manual or not?
Due to some bargin hunting, I have yet to pay $1.00 per liter or more.
You don't live in Atlantic Canada. In Nova Scotia every gas station within 300 miles of Halifax (in other words, every station in the province) is with two cents of each other. In metro Halifax itself (Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford and Sackville) every single station has an identical price. Not so much as a 0.1 cent difference. Anywhere. Which is why the oil compnanies' claims that the free market should set the price is a joke (they claim this every time the public demands regulation).
In New Brunswick the price is nearly identical to Nova Scotia and is uniform across the province. Only in PEI is it under a buck, but that's 'cuz it's regulated there - the government decides whether gas stations can raise the price. Come the end of August, when they have their monthly review, I would bet the title to my car that the price will go well over a buck.
Newfoundland is also regulated, but they obviously had a mid-month price adjustment.
I think the auto makes a huge difference in those vehicles - the four cylinder Cherokee was way underpowered as it was, and bogging that poor li'l 2.5 down with a slushbox made it even worse. Add to that the weight of the 4WD system, and the fact that the Cherokee is quite a bit heavier than the Commanche, and I think I can see why you get such good mileage. The 4-cyl was just working too hard. My 6-cyl got WAY better mileage.
I get about 20-25 MPG in the Dakota on the highway (88, long box, V6, 3-speed auto, 4X4) and probaly do better than the T-Bird in the city, but not better enough to make me want to drive it. No A/C sucks arse, and I like my T-Bird enough to justify driving it around town at the expense of a MPG or two...
Just went up again today, now at $2.85 a gallon, this is gonna stop soon, right?
No joke, even popping the clutch in my comanche, I'm lucky if I can spin the tires on gravel. :hick:
That's not too bad, 20-25 mpg for a dakota like that, not bad at all. So I parked the cougar a lil earlier than planned, I need to try to save all the money I can. BTW, there's ALWAYS a/c, just open the windows. :giggle:
gas around here is about 2.80 for premium,
but what really sucks, is i was reading an article about how the GOV. ( great people they are) are going to try and tax people that don't get 20 MPG or more,
i say " we are allready being taxed !! " dick heads...
The aceatone thing sounds right, it's not used as a replace ment, just an additive that breaks up the moleculer structer of gas, making it burn hotter/ more efficently
gas allready obviously doesn't burn all that clean, hense the cat's under your car,
on the other hand...i don't see why people keep bitching about gas prices...nobodys ever going to do any thing about it....people would have to stop buying gass for 2 weeks NOBODY..and walk to work..catch the bus...some thing like that.... use modes of mass transportation, any body rember a while back that e-mail that was going around ? telling every body, for " just one day " nobody buy gas ?? all is well.. but all your going to do is make the other people buy gas the day before, or the day after,
AMERICA NEEDS TO STAND UP AND FIGHT...(CANADA CAN COME TOO) !!!
Isn't that what got us into this mess? :giggle:
Tanks, planes, and helicopters use more fuel than anything that ever rode the tarmac.
Absolutely right. I remember seeing those emails and hearing about 'em on TV and the next day I'd be at work (gas station, it just so happens) and I'd see no decline in sales at all. Fact is, some people's jobs rely on the fact that they fill up every day. Plus, it's not crippling anyone becaue the fuel stations have already purchased the fuel in the tanks, so an action like that wouldn't even touch the "big evil oil companies".
