I'm finally at the stage where i'm bolting in the spindles, coil-over setup and have a question. I bought the summit racing coil over kit for the 87-93 mustangs thinking it would work no problem.
Do you guys just rip that plastic tube hanging down from inside the strut tower to clear the spring?
Question 2: Are caster/camber plates required for coil-overs, or can I stay stock for now.
Thanks,
Aaron
Yes rip the dust cover off. Yes you need caster/camber plates. :)
maximum motorsports makes a nice set of c/c plates. i have them on my 84 and are very impressed with the quality!!
Well, just for others future reference, there is no way around not getting caster camber plates when you go with coil-overs, as the metal bushing in the stock caster plate is too long to use with coil-overs, there is no way you can get the strut threads above the bushing to get a nut on.
I went with Maximum motorsports 8388 thunderbird plates, ordered from the guy on corral. I ended up paying $43 for overnight shipping to get them to me by tomorrow
Tell you one thing, the front suspension on my car will be the best ever, i sure as hell paid enough for it. This all started after I thought I found a good deal: Griggs k-member for $100. Well that progressed after I had it already bolted in to finding out the stock a-arms wont fit. Then I find out that the struts dont fit the caster camber plates. Oh well.
What are you guys running for suspension on the rear ends...anything special as far as struts/shocks. I want to turn this car into a road racing deamon.
Later,
Aaron
i used mine with stock plates > modifyd for the coilovers using a mustang strut hardware kit and ommiting the metal cup on the bottom
i also used my stock a-arms with my tubular k member by following the instructions and tpuppies the a-arm
have to use mustang struts or regulat t-bird struts with the coilover prc struts wont work with them
there is a way around everthing just depends how much you want to work around it :D
