Ok, I wanted a more accurate readout of my oil pressure (I have the full digital dash) so I figure I'd swap out the idiot type sender for the real one(the bigger one). Upon looking at the 2 I noticed the oil input hole on the big one is MUCH smaller than the idiot guage(see top pic). Anybody know why?
To make matters worse when I went to put the new one in I realized it's too wide! It won't fit (see bottom right pic).
Now this was supposed to be the standard issue part on the 5.0's that had a full oil pressure guage and not just an idiot light on the dash (SO and HO) according to every piece of reference material I've come accross. I can't seem to find my block casting # so What gives?
there is an extension piece that screws into the block, that allows you to use the bigger sensor. :D
Well ! I've not seen or heard of that. Wasn't in any parts breakdown I've seen either (Both Chilton and Haynes need to do better research and the Ford dealer by me is CLUELESS!) Any idea bout the size of the oil input hole being so different?
The hole size difference is probably to "le" small, rapid variations in oil pressure so your gauge doesn't bounce all over the place from small changes in pressure. Like Cougarman says, there is an extension that screws into the block, then your sender screws into that. I bought one two years ago from a hydraulic shop (Ford dealer didn't have one in stock).
Ford dealer not havin somethin in stock. There's a surprise  Got a pic or part # for that extension?
Paul, I'm pretty sure you can just go to Home Depot/Lowes somewhere like that and make one up out of cheap plumbing fittings.
yeah I'll bet it would only be like 5 bucks at the most
When did we get fuel pressure gauges? :grinno:
it master blaster,, you beat me to it!
only like 10 days later
Here is a good picture of the oil pressure gauge installed.
