Post by: slamedcat on August 06, 2005, 09:37:56 PM
Well I was reading the what are you listening to thread (http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=1521) And wanted to know how many or what is the size of your mp3 collection?

I tallied mine after a recent setback, I had to format a hard drive, and started my collection again, with the help of some friends.

And mine come to...

41.5 GB
12,224 Songs

5.16 GB, 1139 files.. but that count includes a couple of non-music files. (the winamp playlists stored in that directory)

I usually just put them on a disc and delete them off the computer. So far I have 4 discs containing 200-215 songs each.
Spend most of my time in the car, so yeah.

When I saw this thread, I thought it was going to be "how many cars do you have?".. to which I'd have replied something like "Tom wins". :p

well i'll have to go see how meny i have but a good guess would be about 365 gigs of music.. but!! it's all on dvd's ;)  i'm not a big fan of Mp3's

to much audio compression for me.. i hate the wavy sounds that come out of a ripped/remixed Mp3  :yuck:

Well what I have right now is a Pioneer DEH-P9300. So I am preaty much spoiled with all the dodads and gizmoes that it has.

So I am looking for something comparable.

If your Pioneer is generally as new as mine is, (I just got the $150 model.. cheapest one that would play MP3 CDs) you should be able to set up an IPbus connection to an Ipod or something like that. I think Pioneer sells adapters. Why look for a DVD-R*M MP3 player and get a whole new system if you like what you have?

I don't know, I'm just shootin' wild here. Don't know what exactly you're looking for. Seems like you're looking to use DVD recordables for MP3 storage.

I am looing for a new one because it is about 3-4 years old and the cd player loading mechanism is broke.  $700 down the drain on that one.

I could talk the guy I bought it from into buy in the parts to fix from pioneer. But I still need some thing to play mp3s.

Yes, I burn my mp3s to dvd and take them to work and listen to them on my computer.

Well hell, you can pick up a $150 Pioneer and whatever the  Ipods cost plus an adapter and hold like 20 gigs of music or whatever. I don't think I have yet seen any car stereos that use DVD-recordables for MP3 play.. but I don't know. I would guess that something like that is currently way out of my price range, but not impossible to make.

I wouldn't mind it if I found a Pioneer CD changer that also read MP3s. Just whip up a couple more CDs and throw everything into it and never bother with it again.

A little over 3200 songs, just over 18GB, 97% legal (some odds & ends songs you just cannot find other than file sharing). Most songs at 192kbps. And those are just the songs I want...if I were to rip my entire library it would be more like 40GB or better. And I am still 100% Metallica free baby!! Screw Lars. :)

I can't say I am metallica free, but I did own the tapes at one time, so, per the RIAA's argument I have purchased the license in the past, cause you don't actually purchase a physical medium for the music, but the rights to listen to copyrighted material. Thus me having owned the tapes, it is legal for me to download the .mp3's.
that and i did just to steal some metallica.
Most of mine is imported ripped from my cds or techno made by friends.

At work, I have 1250 files at 4.66gig. I don't listen to mp3's at home. And in case you're all thinking I messing with your cd's  most of those were ripped from an actual cd I bought.
