I got something wrong with the a/c clutch, I have to tap it with the back of a screw driver cause it gets stuck, plus when it does run the front disc part wobbles like crazy and it doesn't seat all the way. Almost like it bent or something.
Just looking for some info on this job. I'm picking up the part after work and I'm putting it on tonight. Do I need any special tools, pullers? etc.. Any thing I have to look out for? I can do this with the system charged right?
Any help is greatly apreciated :)
I have never done this before, but I would reccomend that you get the later style (4.6L) clutch. The one that has the 3 clutch "triangle" so that you'll never have the un-even seating problem again. It will fit onto our compressor, Nick has done this swap.
to replace the the clutch you need one of these (http://autozone.com/images/products/grn/grn27006003.jpg)
first you will need to remove the nut in the center shaft then thread the puller on and turn the center bolt "on the tool" down untill it pulls the whole clutch off....
heres the whole link it says it's for chrysler's but it should be the same tool for ford's too..
check into it it's easy to do
Nick
Hey guys how things going its been a while...
Yo Nick whats this clutch that Billy is talking about above ? and wheres the link to the tool ? :tg:
easy job all you need is a socket to take the center nut loose, take and gently pry outward on the face plate, this will expose a snap ring remove this snap ring gently pry the bearing/pulley assembly off, this will expose the "magnet" assembly .
it took me a whole 20 mins to change mine on my poor driver
oops lol
sorry

Same thing happened to mine about a month ago.
Got a complete reman compressor and clutch off of ebay for 95bucks.
I have taken these clutches apart and they are not fun, especially if they have been on there for many years.
Without that tool it may be impossible to get off if it's siezed.
Had to s my old compressor due to the clutch being unable to be removed.
