Title: Electric Fan
Post by: TheCowboyKiller on August 04, 2019, 08:43:36 PM
I'm doing a 5.0 conversion in the 88' and contemplating an electric fan swap. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

If you do an electric fan, certainly do a 3G alternator first. The alternators in these cars don't keep up well with the electrical load of these cars already.

There are a ton of options for a range of budgets. The Taurus, MN12 and Mark VIII fans were always popular budget options. You just have to set up a controller or sorts. You can buy an off-the-shelf option that has temp sensors and PWM controls, or grab something like a VW fan switch and do a 5-pin relay.

I've personally used a universal radiator, 16" fan and aluminum shroud setup on a previous car and used my own relay setup. It worked great for me on a modded 2.3T.

A popular setup right now is Mishimoto's dual fan setup. Bolts right onto a fox radiator with no problems.
