Title: Plenum Dilemma
Post by: Muttwood on October 19, 2018, 01:49:59 PM
My parts car came with a nice shiny Plenum in the back seat.

I had assumed is came off the car but when I went to install it, I noticed it was different.

I googled some Mustang pics and I can see that both types were used.

OK my knowledgeable friends,

Why the difference ?

Thanks in advance.

Depending on the year some plenums (technically upper intake manifolds) were natural aluminum (early version) and painted gray (later version). They are functionally the same.

The older version has a port and a "T" that is not needed on the 88.

I guess I can just plug the port off.

You are correct the older one is not painted.

My guess is that it was going to be used to replace one that is all peeled like my other 88s

I just didn't know if there was a mechanical difference.

It's much cleaner so I will use it.
