That's what I just averaged over a 120 mile trip, according to the tripminder. Not too shabby for a 75 MPH run in a 3500 pound V8 car in 90 degree weather with the A/C running...
Of course that excellent highway mileage is offset somewhat by the 14 MPG the ed thing returns around town...
I'm curious (and I may start a post on it), does your tripminder jive with the actual amount of gas you put in the tank?
Mine seems to underestimate consumption 5-10%.
I dunno - I always found the tripminder built into the full digital dash in my old '87 Sport quite accurate, so I assumed that the clock unit was as well. I've never bothered trying to test it, since it normally shows 28-29 MPG average on the highway, which is what my '87 Sport delivered. Besides, I buy gas in liters and use it in MPG, and that's more math than I care to deal with ;)
I got better than average fuel economy this trip because I was intentionally trying to get the best mileage I could, just out of curiosity - steady state cruising, no hard acceleration up hills (in fact, on one long hill I let the speed drop to 55 as I babied the pedal because there was nobody behind me). I got the idea to try it when I was coasting down a grade and hit the "econ" button, which goes into instant MPG mode and was showing over 70MPG. Going up the next hill it was down in the low single digits. I hit "econ" again to go into average MPG mode, hit "reset" and babied it for the remainder of the 120 miles to see how good I could do. I didn't think that car was capable of that mileage. It'll probably never see it again, either  - I felt like a 90 year old. I can only imagine how good it would have been if I'd really "Old farted" it and travelled at the 62 MPH speed limit...
Even if it's off by 10 %, that's still 29 MPG - still impressive for a large, V8, 17 year old car...
No doubt, mileage like that is well received when gas prices are as they are. I wasn't insinuating your tripminder was off.
congrats on the milage im not to far behind ya :D
mine averaged 27 mpg on a recent roadtrip to florida
I done a gear swap and it picked up to an even 30 now at 75 mph
It's nice seeing the DTE estimate reading 600+ miles on a fuel tank :) I got 31 mpg from PA to myrtle beach many years ago... One tank of fuel the whole 605 mile trip. But that was with a stock 5.0 w/ 273's.. and hell gas was like 0.90/ gallon too
Last summer I got nearly 36mpg on one of my trips down home to Columbus. Granted I had just done a reasonbly major tune-up, with new plugs, wires, cap & rotor, oil change, fuel filter, and fuel injector/system cleaner. Made my brother totally mad too!
i get great highway milage in my mustang with the 2.73's but i rarely go on highway trips that long or far maybe the most will be an hour to the beach at 75 mph. i cant wait for some 3.55's for around town. you got some great mileage out of her though
