I've read quite few posts on the forum regarding electric fan conversions. It appears Taurus, Contour, Fusion, Escort and aftermarket fans have been used with success. Is there a particular fan and shroud assembly that fits the shape of our radiators better than another? Taurus fans seem popular however, they can differ somewhat depending on the model year based on the two Taurus's I have owned. My application is a 5 liter/AOD w/air.
Appreciate any advise as I want to avoid a major fab project.
Mark VIII or Taurus fans are both good options. I have the Mark VIII with a DCControl on both my Bird and the Coupe and it works really good. You will have to trim the shroud and make some tabs to hold the fan in place. As for the Taurus a couple of my buddies have that one with the DCControl and it too works really good.

You want the fan off of an early 90's to 95 3.8 V6 Taurus or off of a 5-speed 89 to 95 SHO as they have the same fan. The Mark VIII and Taurus fans are getting hard to come by and can be expensive.
Another really good option is a twin fan setup from a V6 Contour/Mystique. I has to be a V6 car and about the only real good way to control a dual fan is with something like a DCControls unit. People will mouth about having to wait months for a controller but I literally ordered one to replace the 10 year old unit on my Coupe last year and got it in three weeks.
Id go with a dual motor fan. With the waterpump and pulley sticking out so far, any singled motor fan will be pretty close. My taurus two speed fan was only a fingers width away from the pulley.
With a dual motored fan, you just wire one fan with a relay to be on with the ignition and then use a regular controller for the other fan.
I use a single fan Taurus piece. Never had an issue, and the temps here get over 100 degrees every year. Got the whole assembly brand new from Ebay for less than $70, and the shroud covers the whole face of the radiator.
Thanks, guys. Gives me some options.
I'm waiting on my 3g alternator from Rock Auto and the fan and a new master cylinder will be next.
